These were crayon transfers made using Crayola Fabric Crayons. You draw your design with the crayons onto paper then transfer it to a polyester fabric. I used cheap felt (not wool or wool blend).  It worked great.

I did that--it took two tries. In the first I forgot to reverse the letters in the crayon drawings so that when I transfered them they'd be right.  I also made reusable felt giftwrap for DVDs and CDs--two of our most common gifts.
