Dorset buttons

Some Dorset buttons I've been learning to make when I get tired of my current project. They sure are awkward to make. People used to do this for a living!

Catherine, the book is called "50 Heirloom Buttons to Make" by Nancy Nehring. There are so many different kinds of buttons in this little book and the ones I made are so simple compared to many of the others. The ISBN is 1-56158-146-1 if you're interested.

Ann, these are beautiful. You mentioned a book about them. Can you give me the name of the book please as I am very interested. I have made a few but nothing as smallor as lovely as yours.

Thank you everyone.  Beth, they are tricky, but I like the challenge.  I'd like to get one really perfect.

I love these kind of buttons! I tried one years back and haven't made one since!! They are very tricky.

I really love this idea for buttons as I use buttons to decorate with. I am always looking for different ways to embellish things and these are over the top neat. Thanks for sharing. Hugs Elaine

I don't think so.  I'm no expert and only make them for fun.  It was the history of them that got me interested in the first place.  I don't just love needlework, I love the history of it, too.
