This project was inspired by Michelle Mermaid from a finished piece I saw on her page. My daughter-in-law makes purses. I'm hoping that she will use it as a panel in a purse.

Hi-thanks for the credit! I was actually inspired by others, SharonB I think. It was the first chicken scratch piece I did. Yours looks great!

Chicken Scratch is also known as snowflaking, gingham embroidery and Amish embroidery. It is usually worked on a gingham check in order to have a lacy look. It was traditionally done on aprons. If you go to the photos page and type in chicken scratch into the search word box at the top, you will see a lot of examples of it. You may be right about the threads getting caught if the pattern is put onto a purse. Darn, I thought it was a good idea.

I don't think I've ever even heard of chicken scratch before. Do you know anything about it's history. I think this would make a great purse. It seems some of the threads are kind of long, do you think they would catch?
