Thanks ladies! Yes I start with a photograph. I play with it in Photoshop and also in my head to get the look I want. A whole lot of simplifying goes on!

Thanks everyone for your comments, you are so welcoming! Shirley B, the embroidery is all my own freestyle effort whether with a machine (free motion) or by hand, very much worked out as I go along and with plenty of unpicking along the way : )
