Thank you - he is part of a bigger project which I am completing for an exhibition at the end of March so lots of work still. Put put a pic up of complete project when done!

Thank you all! I worked an initial layer of long and short underneath, which was padded with felt, and then long thin  bullions on top using one strand of thread. He is actually quite tiny - about 2" or 5 cm long!

What a perfect little fellow he is.  I would love to see how you would interpret our Australia Echidna.  I am sure your hands could work him into a masterpiece.
