- well, lydia, i dont think you ought to copy for TAST cos i got the stitch wrong. i think the idea is that it should be bunched up and lumpy. however i didnt like the geometry of the stitch and changed it so the double chains dont overlap with each other. one nice thing about this version tho is that you can do it back to front like sharon does her chain stitches so you just have to loop through the end of the previous stitch.

aw thanks all ! actually it's not metal. it's two strands of grey embroidery thread, and cos it looked a bit dull and i had a bobbin in front of me i put in one strand of ordinary white sewing machine thread with it. :-)
