Lucy's Rose

This tutorial was kindly provided by Stitchin fingers member Shirley B who invented this type of rose. Shirley also took the photos and wrote the tutorial.

Enjoy this tutorial as it looks to be a interesting silk ribbon embroidery rose and thankyou Shirley!

In the deepest shade of ribbon begin with a colonial knot. If you wish you can have 3 of these.

To begin working the rose petals insert the needle a little way from the knot.

Take the needle into the fabric between the ribbon and the knot

Bring the ribbon across the needle as for a twisted chain, and make 2 wraps round the needle. I will refer to this as a “reverse twisted chain”

Bring the ribbon back across the needle and hold in place with your left thumb while gently pulling the needle through the chain

Anchor the chain with a “ribbon” stitch through the ribbon

For the second petal bring the needle up inside the end of the previous petal

Bring the needle out just near the beginning of the previous stitch

Complete the reversed twisted chain as before

Second round of petals. Commence the chain just prior to the completion of the first reverse twisted chain however on the second round make 3 wraps of the ribbon round the needle

This is a picture of where the ribbon comes out for the next reverse twisted chain

Insert the needle to the inside of the ribbon

Complete another reverse twisted chain with 3 wraps

Gently lift the centre colonial knot so it shows over the ribbon. Smaller roses are made with just one round of the reverse twisted chain.

Another delightful spray worked by Shirley

Great tutorial, thank you for sharing it with us.  It is such a delicate look but I imagine worked in other colors would have a much bolder look.  The tutorial makes it look easy to work.
