Hello just joined.. i am started to explore wearable art/altered clothing.. it may just be to cover those ketchup stains on my favourite shirts but it will be a start.

Hello everyone, Just joined Sf and am often found altering and making art wear. At the moment I am into altering and making jackets from tablecloths.

Love to join this group ! Grew up with making my own clothing and now I am very much in altering clothing, my own or bought in second-hand shops. It is nice to re-use clothing like that and I find it inspiring and rewarding (we do need that in this finacial crisis ?!?!?!)

It is easy to make your own art clothes, especially if you have made any clothing in the past. For instance if yo want to make a jacket. Select your fabric for the jacket, keeping in mind what sort of needle work would you like to do as this will be your canvas. Cut it out of selected fabric, using the pattern sheet given  in pattern packet. On a work sheet design your back sides and front, drawing your designs. Transfer design to jacket pieces and stitch away. When you have everything in place and it pleases you, continue sewing your jacket together. Don,t let sewing  an article of clothing from keeping you from it. It is easy to find a seamstress who will assemble it for you.

Used to make my own clothes and I feel a need to get back at it, my wardrobe is very boring. Just participated in an wearable art show with Gallery 96, an artist co-op I belong to. It was great fun and the impetus fo getting back into it. You can see some of the wok of members on my blog.
