Yes, it also took 22 months for me to finish a 12 month project. But I am pleased with the results and find great satisfaction just looking at it sitting on the table. Many personal memories have found a place to be recorded. Thank you Sharon so much for this challenge. A couple pix on my page and all the individual pages on my flickr. www.flickr.com/photos/stitchintime

Ten months after the end of this challenge, I finally finished my fiber book with the TIF pieces. I've posted pictures in the Photos section, but I've also posted pictures and information on my blog. I want to thank Sharon for having this challenge. I learned soooooo much - and the learning hasn't stopped yet. I couldn't do this sort of thing every year, but it is worth repeating every once in awhile. Sharon, you are the greatest!

Hello dear Sharon and everyone
I would like a color palette, able to mix and add the white color to them, so we'd have a vast range of colors and also an idea or concept like 2008 each month.
I have enjoyed and found many possibilities with the last TIF, was very funny for me!
Kind regards

Marg - thanks for the link - he does a good job of explaining simply. I have to agree that there is a time for exercises and challenges and then there is a time to just get on with your work. I am about at the stage where I just want to go forward with my work and not take so much time online with challenges and such. I work full time and if I do challenges I end up not doing other fiber art work that I want to do. So it would have to really be something I want to do for me to participate again. But I really love following the challenges and seeing the results.

Marg I understand what you mean.
There does come a time when people need to stop the exercises and challenges - even thought they may learn a lot from them it can become very bitsy. Although that is often what exploration and learning is about (little experiments ) there does come a time when a long sustained piece of work feels necessary.
It's the depth that is lacking in challenges etc that eventually becomes unsatisfactory.
That said challenges have their role as people learn heaps from them.

I think i see where you are coming from then Ruth - I just feel that it would become a series of exercises rather than heading towards a "finished" (although I really hesitate to use that word) design. Definitely my problem, I realise, as I keep wanting to move beyond exercise (in more than in art, I might add) and is probably why I have found this year's challenge fairly difficult to engage with - whereas last year I found so exciting. Not that I am not happy to try an exercise but I keep wanting to move on - maybe why stitching samplers is such a chore for me - love them, understand the need, but I only reaklly enjoy the ones done by other people!

An interesting article I found recently on elements and principles www.johnlovett.com/text.htm

Marg - I too thought that the last TIF challenge helped me with design. I was just trying to think of a different slant to it I guess.

Just a thought I meant to add earlier - last time round I found the TIF challenge provided a good opportunity each month for me to at least think about the design principles. . Sadly, sometimes not as successfully as others! However I did fin that I learnt a certain amount as the year went on.
I am not sure how I would find an exercise each month emphasising a particular principle alone. Just a personal thought, of course.
