Welcome Cindy! Sounds like you're well on your way using all those techniques.

Hi everyone. I'm Cindy and I just joined in. I have been dabbling in hand-dyeing, painting, monoprinting, stamping, ink-jet printing and the like. I need to get more serious about it. I make art quilts and I really want to create really interesting and complex surfaces for my backgrounds before I begin the collaging and quilting.

Hi I'm DebraAnn. I'm mainly a hand embroiderer and mostly on muslin but I have recently started to get a little more adventurous watercoloring my fabric and trying to think of other interesting things to spice things up.

Hi I'm new.
I've done a bit of mixed media stuff and have just started to do some stitching too, machine and hand embroidery and attaching fibres etc.
This looks like the place to be.
A challenge sounds good if you don't mind beginners

Hi everyone! I'm Donna from the US. I do lots of fabric painting, dyeing, paintstiks, crayon, beading, stitching, etc. to add texture to my quilted pieces. Looks like the group has a nice mix of people doing different techniques.

Can we get some kind of challenge or theme going so we can share knowledge between the group members? I'd love to learn about other techniques.

Hi all.
I am Amy from Australia. I have just joined Stitchin Fingers today and felt it a 'must' to join the surface design group :)
I just love so many aspects of surface design but in recent years I've been concentrating on screen printing with dye, immersion dyeing and a traditional Japanese dyeing technique called Katazome. I just can't get enough!

I would agree with Margaret, stitch+paint+ ? , and I love the stitching/painting, multi-media aspect of it. I look forward to seeing everyone's work.

As someone who paints over heavily quilted surfaces I would say yes , surface design does include stitch. There are however groups purely about stitch so I suppose I see this group as being more about an integrated approach

Just joined this forum. I have dabbled in surface design, currently doing alot of textile art with quite a bit of rust dyed things featured.

Is surface design just about dyeing/painting/ adhereing images to the surface, or does it include stitch?
