Comment by Judy on July 24, 2012 at 14:12 Hello Everyone, I am pleased to read about how happy everyone are with their new purchases from Anne. I have found her a Joy to chat with and very helpful on how to use the half cone sticks. I wish I could attend one of her classes I am sure it would be fantastic.. Hugs Judy
Comment by Allison Bradbury on July 24, 2012 at 9:23 I'm very new to stumpwork and raised embroidery but am keen to learn more. i am currently working stitch sample squares prior to working on my first "real piece". I'll let you know how I get on.
Glad you found it helpful, Carol-Anne. I'd owned the half cone sticks for about ten years (!) before actually getting round to using them in a project, and I was really pleased with how they helped give interest to the bride's bag. As I mention in the blog post, I'd been putting off doing the raised stitching part, as I thought it might come out wrong, but they were really simple to use, and gave good results.
Comment by Grace Lister on July 24, 2012 at 9:00 I must admit Carol-Anne that I hadn't come across anyone who made these until I read Judy's comment in this Forum and then went to Janet's blog to find out more. As I said below I am delighted with the order and prompt delivery and have written back to Ann at Needlepaws to say so. I ordered the Basic Needlelace Set and if anyone wanted a gift for a needlewoman I would say this is an ideal present.
Comment by Carol-Anne on July 24, 2012 at 8:58 Thank you, Janet. I've just read your post. Very interesting.
To use a half cone stick, you tack it in place on the fabric, then work lifted up detached buttonhole stitch, in rows, over a base thread, to make raised shapes such as tubes of flowers, etc. I wrote a blog post about how I used half cone stick to make foxglove flowers, here: http://janetgranger.wordpress.com/2012/03/30/embroidery-in-progress...
Comment by Carol-Anne on July 24, 2012 at 8:30 I've not come across half-cones before this conversation. How are they used?
I ordered a thread palette from Needlepaws late last week, and received it on Saturday, so I agree - their service is excellent, and the thread palette is really nicely made :-)
Comment by Grace Lister on July 24, 2012 at 8:20 I have just received the half-cone and ring sticks I ordered from Anne at Needlepaws and like Judy am absolutely thrilled with them. They are so smooth and delicate looking, I can't wait to use them. I am giving my small class lessons on Stumpwork in September so I will certainly have use for them almost imediately as samples must be don before then. I also found that Needlepaws delivery service was excellent, ordered on Thursday evening and here this morning - Tuesday.
