Hello Everyone,

Another question.  What does stitchers use as the padding ( clumps of threads)  when creating " Casalguidi Stitch".  I read that #3 pearl cotton can be used but I would like to find a cheaper kind of thread. Also where can you buy this kind of threads.

I noted on Sharon B website she used a clump of threads but she did put a name to the kind of threads used.   Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Hugs Judy

Hello Grace,

You are welcome. Emily did all the legwork in finding Anne's website.  I discovered UK's Janet Grangers Blog and was so impressed with how she used the Half Cone Stick in creating her Foxglove flowers I knew I had to have one.  LOL

I just got a email from Anne this afternoon and my Half Cone Sticks are winging their way to me.  I will be excited to see them arrive and and even more excited giving them a go.   Hugs Judy

Thank you Judy and Emily for the Needlepaws website.  I have been looking for a website that sells the Ring (Hedebo) stick and this website sells them. I  have been working Stumpwork since the 1980's and have never heard of a Half Cone Stick until Judy mentioned them.  Looking through the website it is full of those individual things that I have thought could be useful but never could find anywhere.  What a find!!

Hello Everyone,

Thanks Emily for helping me find a site to buy the Half Cone Stick.  Anne Weston in the UK has a website called Needlepaw and Anne's husband makes them.  Mine will be on its way soon and when I receive my two Half Cone Stick I will share photos of them.  Hugs Judy

Lydia, I also meant to say that there are tutorials on Stumpwork in the Tutorials Section at the head of this page.

Do have a go at Stumpwork, Lydia,  You will find it is not nearly as difficult as you would think.  You will find there are numerous books on the subject and as you are in London there are plenty of classes or workshops on embroidery in and around the capital.  What part of London are  you in?  I used to live in Sidcup near Bromley and learnt how to do that technique at a college in Beckenham.  I would recommend either Jane Nicholas' books or Daphne Ashby's.  I really recommend Barbara and Roy Hirst's two books but they are rather hard to come by but perhaps  your local library would have them.
