Got it. And they are discontinuing! Bugger!

So are you going to buy from this store, or are you still looking?

So many threads I've never heard of on the site!

MaryD - is *that* gimp similar to the one used for the lion?

Oh, I just re-read your post, Francesca. Bourdon Cord, in viscose - I'll go look again.

So, Textere Yarns sells the sort of gimp that Tricia used on those two projects? (If this comment is repeated, sorry, accidentally deleted it trying to edit it).

Been to Textere - looking in Silk Yarns and the Silk Fibre Collection, and not spooted something that looks likely. And now I want some too!

Hi Martha, my search starts from seeing the gimps in your Blog, you made a lovely work !

I believe that those where made by Golden Threads as a special request for Tricia, but I wanted to find a source that has many colours available and ready to sell.

Have just find an interesting site, Texere Yarns, that carries the gimps in a nice variety, they are not silk but viscose but I think its ok anyway; the commercial name of gimps is Bourdon cord.

Thank you so much for writing me and for the pictures in your Blog, where so helpful!

Francesca,

I think you may be talking about the kind of reproduction silk gimps that Tricia Nguyen has recreated for some of her recent classes.  I thought that she had some for sale. . .but a check of her website ( http://thistle-threads.com/ ) didn't show any.   From her class comments, I know that the gimps she used she either made herself or had made in very limited quantities.

There are photos of the threads from two of her class projects on my blog www.stitchingwithkittens.blogspot.com .  The lion stumpwork (June 13, 2011 and previous) uses couched solid silk gimp for his body.  If you blow up the pictures and look REALLY REALLY closely, you can see the "gimp-iness" of the fiber. . .where the top layer of silk parts a bit to show the lighter colored silk core.   Tricia's mermaid stumpwork class (I'm still working on this piece) also used a brightly striped silk gimp that Tricia created herself.  There are photos of some of these fibers in my June 30, 2010 post.

Thank you, I'm going to have a look...

Silk gimps are very used also for outlining and filling spaces, couching them on fabric, specially in historical reproduction raised embroidery.

Machteld, not Martelvonc - sorry.

And Gina, in case you don't know, is at http://gina-b.blogspot.com/ - there will be a contact there or at her shop, which is linked to her blog

Francesca,

First, I had to google "silk gimp" because I didn't have a clue what it is. Gold gimp cord, yes. Silk gimp - used in making tassels, yes?

Check out http://m-silkwork.blogspot.com/2007/01/silk-gimp-thread.html and maybe e-mail martelvonc or Gina Barrett for sources?
