Buttonhole Stitch

Okay - I have done it. I have had a day to stitch, and I dived right in. My Buttonhole adventures are at

What I am interested in, at my stage in life (grin), is doing complicated seam variations, with very occasional small beads. But mainly seams in very simple threads, relying on the stitches and colour for effect. However I have been laying down really basic stitches, and then varying the "value-adding". So what I am doing now, is trying to vary that first line of stitches a bit, so I played around with one of Sharon's version of Buttonhole.

The other thing this has made me do, if check which of my seams I have scanned and "classified" (I am a classifier), and have found I have missed out on heaps. So I have made all sorts of sets in my photos in flickr (look on the righthand side), and have been uploading some of my combinations up there.

Your stitching is beautiful. I love the way you have organized the photos so I can see how the stitches look in different applications. I'm such a beginner I wouldn't know it was the same stitch otherwise. TFS. :)

I loved your flickr sets - I kicking myself that I have not been tagging stitches as I blog them. Never mind I think I should start.

Linda Hope you don't mind I just changed to the heading to buttonhole stitch so people can add their links, photos and discussion to this thread.

Hopefully links and photos etc about buttonhole stitch will be kept more or less together. As the stitch along develops a search should bring up the discussion too.

I am asking people to Tag photos where they can. Tag photos buttonholestitch (ie run the words together) or keep them inside quote marks "buttonhole stitch" or do what I am going to do and use both
People tag in different ways and in the past we have had to run words together now we have a new option of inside quote marks. So I am suggesting using old and new methods. This means that in the future people can find your photos under the tags.

Anyway as I said hope you dont mind the title change and I am encouraging people to add links, photos etc here
Also if you are new hand ask questions too. If I am not online I am sure there are plenty of people who will help you too.

Linda, I've had a look at your flickr pics and they're not only beautifully organised but gorgeous. I've been having a bad pull-everything-out run lately, probably because I can't get to my stitching till night time when I'm knackered and not seeing straight. But you've inspired me. Thank you.

Hi Susy - thank you. I am one of those strange people who loves to classify and organise lists. So it is all good fun. I think Sharon's Stitches will be good for this - Can't think what to do? Grad a stitch sheet, grab a thread, find a seam and sit back and stitch. Preferably with feet up and a nice wine / coffee/ cuppa tea / chocolate.

Once upon a time, somewhere, I saw a thread about "Food to stitch with" - the sort of things that didn't get on your fingers while stitching.

I never knew the buttonhole stitch could be so versitile. These pages have opened up a lot of possibilities. I have been using it for hem work on my garments I make and never tried to be decorative with it. My photoes are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/14196417@N03/sets/72157625096921821/de....

Have finally had a chance to take photos of my buttonhole stitch pages. Great fun to do and it looks so professional stuck in with the mistyfuse - great tip that Sharon. Have started a file in picasa for my pages so hope the link works - so many firsts in this project. LOL
