I thought people could share photos, or links to their photos of their Back stitch samples here

Hopefully it means all discussion, links and photos that relate to back stitch will be kept more or less together. As the stitches grow a search should bring up the discussion too.

Tag photos backstitch (ie run the words together) or keep them inside quote marks "back stitch"
People tag in different ways and getting people to standardise is hard  particularly when new to online activity or when English is a second language so with the release  of each stitch I will encourage one or two methods. This means that in the future people can find your photos under the tags.

Anyway add your links, photos etc here and if you are new hand ask questions too as I am sure there are plenty of people who will help you too.

Here's a link to a sampler I've just done. The words and the images of wheat heads are all done in backstitch.

love this and like the lace on top too -
Ever tried drawing lace in back or stem stitch? I did once, and have it somewhere but cant find it. I was reminded of it when I saw your lace as it was very similar.
I posted my Backstitch sampler here

and hope I managed to do the Tag correctly.

I hope everyone takes a look on your blog - I got such a kick out of seeing your page Maureen. Really I did - sending you a big hug
I did a little backstitchin' - over on my flickr pages.

I decided to use some of my silk yarn samples from dye workshops and fabric scraps from deconstructed screen printing projects. I have no idea what size needle I am using... It has a great long eye and I've been using it for a long time. It's my lucky needle, I guess.
I hope people visit as this is a great sample - it looks very vibrant

Thanks, Sharon, I really appreciate your comment today. I think I have the focus for the rest of my samples - using the silk thread dye samples and scraps of dyed canvas from other projects. The motifs will be leaves as long as I can fit the stitch to the idea.

I really have to say that I also appreciate the longevity of your presence on the net. Yours was the first blog I read and it opened my eyes to the possibilities for using the computer for a research and reference tool and for keeping in touch with friends around the world.

I'm still going to try and keep up with TAST 2010 as that has really been fun, too!

Hi, I wanted to show the little sample I made for Sharon's Personal Library of Stitches class, using just backstitch.

Sharon, I don't know how to create a link between my photo if I post it on the photo page and this discussion group. Did I miss the tutorial on that, or am I just really computer dense?? I don't want to clutter up the discussion like this. Sandi
Sandi I think it is better to have photos here as it is is easier. Love your sample! Bright and happy.
Have started a back stitch sample by drawign a design free-hand and I am progressing with basic backstitch and whipped backstitch, will add some beading for further interest(bit boring at the moment!)

and a close up
Hello everyone!
Finally got my backstitch done. Thank you so much for doing this for us Sharon. When I chose to do the backstitch, I thought now this is going to be a boring stitch. But I wanted to use all of the stitches for my file collection. But boy was I so wrong about this stitch. It has become one of my favorite stitches, I learned this stitch is great for drawing in thread. I haven't done a lot of backstitch so I am really glad I chose to do this one first. You can see what I have done at

I love it! It looks great!
