Stash Swap Guidelines

Tricia and I started this group to work on stash bustin’. This group is for members who are interested in swapping some of their unwanted (what were you thinking?) stash for another’s stash you’ve just got to have! The forum is also a place to discuss what to do with scraps and fiber stash and to get ideas for using what you have. This can include anything that is fiber related including books, patterns, fibers, fabrics, etc. If you have something to swap, start a discussion in the discussion forum. The post should be titled with the general category your item belongs in i.e. fabric, books etc. If there is already a discussion about what you want to swap, just add you item to that discussion.

When you post an item or items to be swapped here, you must also post a photo, an accurate description including the approximate value and what you would be interested in receiving in return. You should also take into consideration the postage especially if one of you is shipping something heavy and the other is a light package. If instead of a swap, one member would like a cash transaction, that is up to you both to make that decision and decide on form of payment etc. The photo needs to be shrunk in size considerably to fit into the discussion forum otherwise it will look stretched.

If you would like to swap with someone, please contact that person directly by leaving a comment on their page. It is the responsibility of the two swappers to arrange the deal and be satisfied with the arrangement before swapping. This group and its moderators are not responsible for making sure that a swap is completed. Each member is responsible to their swap partner. The fiber community is a very generous and giving place online and we hope everyone will continue in that vein. If there is a dispute, Tricia or Ruth will attempt to resolve the problem but we can’t take responsibility for all swaps made.

Yeah - she's doing that - but she's confined to a scooter, so doesn't get around to shops as much as she could.

I don't have a source but I know that there are a lot of "retro" fabrics being sold now. She's looked at fabric stores? The only other suggestion would be looking at second hand or Salvation army type places.

If you know of a good cheap place to get such 60's non-floral material, that would be great too.

Hi,
I have a friend looking for "post war 'modern' and 60's, not floral-type). for curtains. She's looked on Ebay and found the prices too high, because it's gone and gotten trendy again.
I was wondering whether anyone had a stash and was willing to sell it (are you allowed to offer money in this group? Neither of us have much stash ourselves to bust)
:-)

Note to Amber - I am here and have been keeping an eye out in case anyone wanted to do something with this group. I volunteered to help Tricia with this group but I really don't need to do a lot of stash bustin. Do you have ideas that you think would make this group more active? Please let us know or start a discussion above.

anyone have any first hand knowledge of quilting as you go? I have a stack of squares made previously, several quilt tops worth, plus a few quilt tops (I could deconstruct to try this technique on, if it works).

I find that I need a project small enough to carry along with me, and quilting a whole top is not portable.

I have seen some of quilting as you go tutorials, and they seem like a good idea (except for a bulky seam every section-edge?).

I'm curious, is there a bulky seam at every section edge when they are complete??

it looks like a great idea to use smaller pieces of batting, and to use some varied material in the back (as opposed to a 7 yard length) = (stash busting, not purchasing).

anyone on here try the technique? any tips or pointers or advisories?

I am also interested in any patterns or suggestions for using charm squares. I have so many packets of charm squares..they seem to satisfy my "lust" to have at least a small piece of every fabric in a line I love.
Thanks

Good morning..I was very interested in Andrea's comments about crocheting a "Stash Busting Afghan ." Does anyone know of a way to do the same sort of thing except knitting rather than crocheting? I am thinking of knitting maybe one half inch strips of fabrics.
Thanks
Sylvia

I'm making an afghan called a "Stash Busting Afghan" I got from "Stitch Diva". They sell these huge afghan crochet hooks carved out of wood and come in several sizes. I'm using a size "S" Hook. I can remember the size in Millimeters, but it's pretty big. I'm using between 4 to 6 strands of yarn at a time. I will post pictures when I get half way done.
I just joined the group, by the way.
