Permalink Reply by Cy on October 11, 2011 at 15:21 There are lap stands for sale that have a flat bottom piece that you slide under one of your legs (thigh) so that you are "sitting" on it. The upright bar is joined to the bottom piece and has a clamp at the top for holding your hoop or frame.
Personally I prefer the Posilock floor standing frame holder. It is lightweight, sturdy & solid, and is multi-positional for that perfect working position for you. It is also non-obtrusive and doesn't take up a lot of room. It has one upright pole that holds your work on a (flippable) clamp, and the right-angled floor piece that fits under your chair to keep everything steady.

Permalink Reply by Cy on October 25, 2011 at 14:36 How large is 'large' Kate?
The Posilock stand (photo above) has two clamps that hold almost any size frame. Or you could buy one of the large standard tapestry frame & stand that has two uprights, but that one takes up more space even when not in use.

I inquired about them since they looked very well made, attractive and sturdy, however, the price was a bit steep for me. I saw some yesterday at Michael's for $70+tax, but with a coupon by email, I might consider getting one. The shipping charges makes it expensive for the UK one.
