I like to work in different locations patio, living room & den. I wish to buy a stand that I can attach stretcher frames too. Needs to be able to flip from front to back. Whats best?

Hi Larry I use either a hoop for small items. For a larger item I use stretcher bars and simply prop them stretched against the nearest table. In other words most of the time it is held in my hand. It more or less works, but I would love to hear members comments because I have never found a stand that is truly portable! I have seen table stands and had things the clip to tables but none have been particularly comfortable.
System 4 is hands down the best on the market!

There are lap stands for sale that have a flat bottom piece that you slide under one of your legs (thigh) so that you are "sitting" on it. The upright bar is joined to the bottom piece and has a clamp at the top for holding your hoop or frame.

Personally I prefer the Posilock floor standing frame holder. It is lightweight, sturdy & solid, and is multi-positional for that perfect working position for you. It is also non-obtrusive and doesn't take up a lot of room. It has one upright pole that holds your work on a (flippable) clamp, and the right-angled floor piece that fits under your chair to keep everything steady.

Could not find one so I built one. used three different designs & combined them plus improvements. It turned out to be solid & just what I was looking for.
I would love to ge a new stand that can handle a large canvas. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I know there are people out there tha love their stands and since I hate mine HELP!!
I just completed building mine & it is very stable & I'm working on a 11"x 14" picture that uses a 15" x 18" frame. I think it would handle up to 24" frames.

How large is 'large' Kate?

The Posilock stand (photo above) has two clamps that hold almost any size frame. Or you could buy one of the large standard tapestry frame & stand that has two uprights, but that one takes up more space even when not in use.

Thanks for the pix, your stand turned out very nice. Why such a large base, may I ask? It looks heavy.

Mary Corbet'S site a couple weeks ago published pix and info re some stands from the UK.

I inquired about them since they looked very well made, attractive and sturdy, however, the price was a bit steep for me. I saw some yesterday at Michael's for $70+tax, but with a coupon by email, I might consider getting one. The shipping charges makes it expensive for the UK one.
