Best books for instruction and techniques?

Started by Barbara/Hopscotch. Last reply by Barbara/Hopscotch May 3. 9 Replies

I have various  books about stitch, distressing, fusing etc.  But I wonder if there is one work book you would say is the best for just free-machine stitch embroidery alone? Is there such a book? …Continue

Today I was directed to an artist's blog site by a friend and found the most delightful handmade birds, using fabric.  My first thought, "I would love to try this".  I live in Maine so I immediately…Continue

This is for when you are more confident of your abilities, though the technique can still be applied to "solid" fabrics :)I drew my design on the soluble and attached fabric to all sides so it would…Continue

I thought it might be nice to have an area where we can post photos of what we are working on. They can be loaded here, or if in your photo stream, could you tag them with "machine stitch embroidery…Continue

No, not much activity lately, here or in the discussion area. If you have things you want to talk about though with the machine embroidery you are doing, please add a discussion rather than just comments on the wall. The group is only as dynamic as you make it!

HI Joan,

I don't think there has been much activity discussion-wise lately?  I know I've been neglectful due to tons of stuff going on…

Anyone else having this problem? When I go to this page it says when the latest posts were made but they do not show up anywhere. The last one that is visible here on the wall  was the 7th March.

Arlee, you make me blush! I just want the newbies to know that as long as you have a machine with good tension, this free motion stuff is just a matter of practice. This quilt was a bit of a stretch for me design-wise. No pattern, just free cut and figure it out as you go. It's sometimes frustrating to have no "safety net" but very freeing in the long run to make all your own design choices. After all, it's just time and some fabric and you can throw it away if it really fails.

Cheryl, you continue to amaze me :) GORGEOUS work! I used to use UltraSolvy but the gunk left after is horrible no matter the amount of rinsing: you'll love the Pellon stuff!
