Both Jenny and myself have the book Bedfordshire lacemaking by Pamela Nottingham so we have decided to slowly work through the book together, especially as this style is new to Jenny and I have only ever made a bookmark in Beds so far. If anyone would like to join us, you would be most welcome. We will not be starting until March as Jenny has lace to finish :-) and I have broken bones which will take time to mend.

what type of lace is that book about? sorry to hear about your broken bones, no fun. hope you'll recover quickly.
my fault, forgot to mention it was bobbin lace,

ah, thank you. I still have to begin to learn making bobbin lace so I won't be joining in this. I'm happily tatting a wide edging and croceting small motifs. also I'm knitting a black lace scarf for dd and a brown/blue Estonian stole for myself. hope you'll share pics of your progress
sounds like you are keeping busy:-) we will both be posting photos of our progress once we start.
As you know, I am in, and madly trying to get lace off my pillow so I can start to play. At about 2cm a day, I figure I have about three weeks work ahead of me. Cobi, you certainly sound busy, are there pics somewhere that we can see?
I haven't yet seen this particular book by Pam Nottingham, but I have 2 of her earlier books. I look forward to seeing pictures of progress. I have used some of her patterns as I've been learning, but have also used 2 little pamphlets by Margaret Hamer, a book by Pam Robinson. I hope to work through Barbara Underwood's INTRODUCING TRADITIONAL BEDFORDSHIRE LACE IN 20 LESSONS.

Ladies, Happy Lacemaking! -- Lorelei
I've seen the 20 lesson book advertised, please let me know what you think to it
I've been reading my Pamela Nottingham book in readiness and boy will I need to some practice! I will have to revise my footsides as well as my tallies first I think. Current lace is progressing at a rate of about 2cm per day.

Lorelei, great to hear that you will be joining in our challenge. I am not familiar with the Barbara Underwood book either , so keep us informed how you go.

Merry Christmas Everyone & Happy Lacemaking
Sue I am so sorry to hear about your broken bones. I hope it heals soon and is not too painful.

I am so tempted to join in as I own this book. Do you think it would be too difficult with only my very basic skills in torchon? Please don't be backward in telling me if you think it is a silly idea.

Mind you my pillow is in a box neatly packed away - has been for at least 2 years. I think it is empty. If you think it could be a possibility it might be the way to get me started again.

why not join in, if not your lace pillow may stay dormant like mine did for years :-) we will be taking it slowly, very slowly in my case especialy as leaves and tallies are not my strong point. Hopefully by doing it as a group we will be able to solve any problems together as we go along.
Thankyou for your kind encouragement Sue. I would be super, super slow - i am slow with anything and as for leaves and tallies - the learning curve would b e stupendous. But why not! And what is the worst thing that can happen if I fail - at least I will have tried! And I might not get past those first two edges anyway! It was fun to get it out and read again - I have looked through it so many times over the ten years or so I since I bought it.

great to have you on board :-)
