Japanese Embroidery Challenge 2011

This page is to post questions, pictures, progress on our new challenge.  I'll post the design as soon as I come up with one.

The page works the same as discussions, you can post coments and pictures in the same way.

Hi all, I've uploaded some pictures of my lotus piece. The embroidery is complete but I couldn't upload all the pictures today. If you'd like to see more I've uploaded them into the JE flickr group

Hi Nancy,  if you use the same size letter paper as the US then A4 is just slightly smaller than that.  210mmx297mm.  Feel free to re-size the design as you feel.  We'd said this would be the only modification we'd make to this design.  Would you like me to send you the line drawing?

Hi Jane.  Your design is quite lovely.  After viewing the video about producing an image on silk, I am tempted to stitch this piece.  I even have the perfect piece of fabric that I purchased from the Japanese Embroidery Center a few years ago.  What are the dimensions of a sheet of A4 paper?

Hi all, have started blogging about my version of the challenge here, for the moment I'm keeping the blogs in stitchin fingers not on my main website.

Hi all, this is about 1/2 the width of a sheet of A4 paper and not quite as tall.  I think if people want to we should allow participants to re-size the piece.  Timescale not an issue, whenever people have time. Barbara, I'll send you the details over.

I tried to e-mail you  re: my interest in the challenge piece, but my e-mail kicked back claiming

bad address. Could you please send me the patterns?

It's a lovely design, Jane.  Can you you give some indication of size?

Fabulous!  How exciting this is!  Love your choice, Jane.  So many ideas popping into my mind already.

Deisgn for our challenge.  I've taken this from one of the Grammar of Chinese ornament books I've got.  I thought the lotus flowers would give us chance to do interesting things with colours or maybe different techniques on each flower.

The idea for this design is a fixed design which can not be changed but which can be embroidered using your own choices for colours and techniques. This page has been set up so we can share our collective ideas, questions, thoughts, working collaboratively but still ending up with a piece which is unique to each of us.

I have a full size image of this design along with a line drawing to use for a transfer.  If you would like to take part in the challenge email me at challenge@nejiribana.co.uk and I'll send you back the images.
