Hello all, I am looking for help in defining Japanese Embroidery. I need to write a submission where I will need to differentiate between embroidery worked in non-Japanese silks but using Japanese style designs and techniques and our Japanese embroideries. Points I have thought to include are -
1. Designed using Japanese motifs and colour sensitivity
2. Worked in Japanese threads - flat or twisted silks and often incorporating Japanese metal threads
2. Worked on silk background fabric
3. Uses Japanese techniques
Any suggestions would be gratefully received

Using motifs for specific times of year perhaps, new year, spring, cool summer motifs.
Colours and motifs for specific ages of the wearer, different for a teenager than for a mature woman.
For techniques I talk about those specific to JE - fuzzy effect or cords for example, or perhaps talk about how much we use superimposed techniques.
Nothing else springs to mind at the moment. Good luck with your submission.
