Use a lovely soft yarn (I used mohair).
Choose an easy lacy stitch that you are confident to crochet.
Crochet a rectangle about 3" x 8" (7.5cm x 20cm).
Fold in half, right sides together.
Oversew up the two 4" (7.5cm) sides.
Push bag through to right sides out.
Make two draw-string handles in chain stitch about 12" (30cm), and knot each end to stop it unravelling.
Starting on the second or third crocheted row from the top of bag : thread one end of a draw-string handle from right-hand side of bag, using the open lacy stitch gaps and weaving in and out all the way around the bag until you are back where you started.Tie the two loose ends of this handle together, knotting as near the ends as possible.
Then, starting from the opposite side of the bag, thread the other draw-string handle in the same way so that it hangs on the left of the bag. Tie the loose ends and finish as before.
If you wish to, you could crochet a shell stitch around the top of the bag for an extra "frilly" top.
Made in white this bag is ideal as a Wedding Favour Gift Bag, filled with bon-bons or other such trinkets.
It is a great bag for that special gift for a special friend using yarn in their favourite colour.
Can be filled with fragrant soaps, jewellery, soft toy, fudge, home-made confectionary, the choice is endless.
Enjoy the giving.
Hugs
Cy

Permalink Reply by Fiona Audain on October 11, 2011 at 17:03 Thanks Cy, what a great idea, I might have to make some of these for a craft fair that I have booked a stall for at the end of this month. I like the idea of putting soap in the bag as a gift.
I will put up some photos when I have got them made.
