An exciting start. Do keep us posted. It's so nice to see photos of works in progress!

I'll be checking back to see your progress once I return from holidays.
Happy stitching everyone!

I started my desert pebble. The base is a CD. Here is a picture of some of the trapped items: beads in different sizes, a button and padding.
Most of the padding is meant to create a smoother transition from the trapped little pebbles to the surface. Other padding e.g. left of the three beads, is meant for difference in altitude.
Here are the little pebbles embedded in the padding. Some sides of the pebbles are not padded. These sides are very steep and I want te keep it that way.
I have no idea yet how it will turn out.

Permalink Reply by Marjolein Mieras on June 2, 2012 at 6:36 Here I have sewed the top fabric around a trapped pebble.
The pebble of the previous picture is under the fabric.
These beads will be trapped next. Behind the button you see some batting. Left of it will be another pebble. You can see its shape which I drew on the fabric. The batting creates a slope to the right. The left side is a steep slope.
All items are trapped. The trapped pebbles are supposed to be rocks/hills/mountains, so not all the sides are just as steep. I tried to achieve this by sewing at different distances from the pebbles.
Here and there I also added more padding to get a sloping hill.

Maybe more people will get interested in making a pebble.
