We, Deb and Marjolein, have admired that project ever since. Now we have decided to rush into this "Pebble Adventure".

Does anyone want to join us? We can share pictures and experiences here or provide links to blogs or flickr.

It is a lovely little pebble!  Wish I had some of those 6 prong beads!  I really like them.

Hi Donna,

I used a plastic lid to cut my pebble shape from instead using cardboard.  I drew a pebble shape out on paper that I liked and then drew it out on the plastic lids and cut it  out.  The piece for the bottom I cut slightly smaller than the top piece.  I followed the directions from the project about the gathering stitches and finishing.  The plastic pieces just seemed to be better than cardboard to me.

The threads....I have used regular sewing machine thread, perle cotton, DMC stranded floss, crochet cotton,wooly nylon serger thread,candle wicking thread....I think that was all.

The smoothness is helped with a little batting between the plastic and the fabric.

Thanks Deb,  It makes sense what I am seeing in your pebble.  I never thought of Wooly Nylon.  I hope to start mine tomorrow.  Have been gathering threads, fabric and my bumps.  Have been studying some of the stitches to get a feel for what i want to do.  Thanks for the info.  It is very helpful. Your pebble is so gorgeous.  Only hope mine can be half that nice.  Will give it a whirl tomorrow.

Here is my pebble so far. I have added a square shape and a tube. The tube is caught under a wrinkle at the left.

I have basted the shape of my pebble 0,5 cm below the will-be seam. The seam where the top and bottom pieces will meet. It is a real pebble, it is about 12 cm long and 7 cm wide. I have wrapped batting around it.

Than I stretched the fabric around the pebble.

I have decided to make two folds in the top fabric. That is where the pins are.

At the edge of the fabric I will sew those folds together with machine thread. They will be covered with embroidery.

The upper parts of the folds will also be filled.

 At this point the wrinkle problem seems to be solved. We will see how it works out.
