Isn't it funny, the number of different names for the stitches...By the way Barbara, that's beautiful work! Is there a way to even out the tension, when wrapping the bar? This was my first attempt, as I usually needleweave them, and I found keeping the tension very tricky...particularly when the bars are meant to 'bow' or buckle slightly, despite what the picture is showing! :-)

Oh, yes, they call splitting the four thread bar into to two and wrap two threads each, together with Dove's eyes. I've never heard the name "lacy wrapping" for it. For me it's just wrapping split bars with Dove's eyes, since they are separate stitches und just form motifs as you go.

Yes, you've to be careful when doing the eyes to stitch them all int the same direction, otherwise it can look very untidy.

Thanks for the mention of Janice Love; have a couple of her books and need to dig them out for a refresher as I'm starting to make another curtain.

I'm still here, but haven't been in much.  Love the Dove's eyes and have made many, many of them.  Easy to do and I love the looks of them very much.  Here is one of my pieces using them.

I think I've cracked it! Looks ok...good old 'Janice Love- Hardanger Basics and Beyond' She has some excellent information on stitching Dove's Eyes in a Clockwise and Anti-clockwise direction...also I ignored the direction the needle was pointing, on the diagram, and just did what I thought might look best! This is the one of the best parts of Hardanger Embroidery in my opinion..that, 'aha..' moment!

Hi  Guys! Sorry, not sure how to do that...I'm a bit of a Computer dunce I'm afraid..lol..can you tell me how? Sibille, it's definitely not Lacy daisy...I'm going go and have a look at your website though...that looks interesting! Lacy wrapping is worked with wrapped bars and it's a series of Dove's eyes formed into a square, and the way it's worked, means, that the outside edges of the Dove's eyes look like they are in a circle!  with an eyelet stitch worked in the middle of the square as you go...I'm reassured tbh, that you're not familiar with it, I thought it was one I 'should' be able to do...but actually it's rather hard! :-)
