I found a tutorial for a fairly complicated Hardanger piece.

I just tried out a filling I found on flickr.

http://lynxlace.com/hardangerfillings.html#empty center square  It is the orange-yellow one on the right, and consists of a square filet worked on top of a dove's eye and woven through it.  Here she shows how she did it:
