Lovely pictures on the blog Judy! There are some very technical books on binding, but a comparatively low cost book with great examples and clear instructions on techniques is 'Cover to Cover' by Shereen LaPantz. She works with paper as most book artists do, but the designs are easily re-appropriated for cloth.

Hello Everyone,

Brinda, For years I have been wanting to create a Fabric Journal Book.  This Winter I finally started it.

Julie, I would like to ask is there any very special book you could highly  recommend on how to put your fabric journal pages together???

Brinda,  I have just finished My First Journal Page for My Journal which I am calling "Dreaming of Spring"!  Just this week I posted to my blog some photos of it if anyone would like to have a look.  They can be any size this first page of mine turn out a bit bigger than most, I think.  It is 8 Inches by 7 1/2 inches.   But I wanted more room to do my hand embroidery on it.   http://cjstitchingandblooms.blogspot.com/

For My Journal Book I plan to do each page to reflect My Life such as trips we have taken. "Dreaming of Spring" came about this Winter when all I could think of was Spring. We had a very bad Winter in Michigan this year. LOL

Thanks for your help.   Hugs Judy

Hi Brinda, there are no specific principles because all books are individual works of art. You could start by looking down the list of names in this group and having a look at each person's work, or you could do a google image search of 'fabric books' 'artist books' or 'embroidered books' and you will get hundreds of image to inspire you. There are also dozens of books about making books, and if you put the same search terms in Amazon, you'll get lots to choose from!

Hi! New to this group. I just uploaded a fabric book of a Longfellow poem I did. It's on my page. I was playing around with Lutradur (oh no, am I spelling it right!) and love the way photos printed on it. The textures were really interesting. It can smudge though. Do any of you know if I can heat set it or something to avoid the ink smuding?

New books is a subject I see a lot here. I just got Isobel Halls new book and she is going to be in Adelaide in January teaching at the South Australian Embroiderers Guild Summer School. You don't have to be a member to go to the Summer School.
Another good book is "Fabric Art Journals" by Pam Sussman. It is my favorite book on making books. Good clear instructions and lots of inspiration.

Hi,
After buying some books quite some time ago I have decided to get a move on. We had our Craft and Quilt fair here in Adelaide this weekend so I made a cover for an A4 journal with Wendy Bailye. I am going to embroider on it and then cover a journal for ideas for my book. I bought a large photo album when our local scrapbooking shop closed down and I am going to use that for the book.
