It looks like we might have some interest for swapping book pages. If we're going to do that, we'll need to set up some guidelines in regards to size, theme if any, when to do it and how many pages we want to swap etc. If you are interested in swapping, please reply to this discussion and put your thoughts on how you would like it to work.

I havn't made a fabric book before but I am very interested to make one. And I would be glad, if I could swap with you.
Yes I need guidelines or tips, for example what to take for the middle layer (or back layer) or how large it should be.
For my own one I decided that I will take an old t-shirt for the middle layer - that will be a bit soft perhaps - I will try it. But I think that it won't be good for trade.

Great Trillian - we can work out the details once we see who else is interested.

I'm interested!!!!!
I've never made a fabric book for a swap before, but I do have one I'm working on for my own. I can make another one in any size perameter you think is best for the page swap. I'm excited! I hope more people come on board!

Debi - we've got three so far and I really can't get this started until next year. I was hoping that we could get more people on board and work out the details and then start the swap at the beginning of January. Is that OK with you both? What size book are you making Debi?

The first of the year is great for me... hope I don't forget. I've got 3 actually. One is about 8X10" by about 3" thick. I started another one that was about 10X10" by 1 inch deep, but couldn't find it after we moved. I still have about 20 boxes left to unpack and I JUST FOUND IT about an hour ago!!! The one I/m making to replace the one I couldn't find until today is about 9X10.5 and will be about 2" thick. All three are completely different from each other. Any size the group wants to make will be okay with me. I may do another scrap pieced front and back cover quilted with seed stitches.

I would love to participate in a swap. I've made a few pages and books (unfortunately I don't have any of them any more) and have even taught a class about 5 years ago now on www.lisasheaven.com . I haven't made one for quite a while and am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.

How is this going to work? I live in Australia and am happy to mail wherever I need to.
Are we going with a theme? Do we pick our own theme or shall we all have the same theme? What about dimensions? And shape?

I personally like the Gothic style arch shape.

Look forward to participating.

Oh yes! I would love to be in a page swap! January sounds good, too! After the holidays - LOL!
A template would be a good idea so the pages will all fit together, although I would think a few alterations would make things interesting. And each participant could announce a theme for their own book.
Or . . . each participant makes a template for their book? It gets very complicated with a large group, but is quite doable with a small one. We will have to see how many sign up.
Oh boy - now my brain is bubbling with ideas. I need to stop drinking so much coffee!

OK - It looks like we have 5 so far. If we have a small group, then I think that we can each do a page for each person's book. If it gets more than 8-10 then that won't be feasible. Of course if we have a big group, we could break into several smaller groups to make it more workable. I like the idea of doing a template so that all the pages fit well together and also it might be easier to make several backgrounds at once and then embellish from there depending on theme. I like the idea of each participant picking a theme for their book. That way you end up doing different themes instead of the entire group having one theme and you might get tired of doing the same theme over and over. So does everyone think they can do one page a month? Or do we need to take longer than that? I think if we made a list of names, then you would start out making the next persons name on the list (the one below you in the list) a page for January, then in December you move down the list to the next name etc. Each person would be responsible for mailing the page to that person.

I think that after you got all your pages, you could then make the book cover (or I guess you could do this ahead of time if you liked) and then we could display the books online here or we could do a blog if we wanted. We would all need to exchange mailing addresses ahead of time.

Can anyone else think of what else we need to decide? We still need to pick a template and size. Gothic style arch as suggested by Johoanna sounds fine with me.

I LOVE the idea of an arch book! That really gets me excited!!!!! So, will we start in December to mail off a page in January?? I can definitely do one a month. I may even do more if I know ahead of time what everyone's theme is. I LOVE to do handstitching at night while I listen/watch TV.

I need to start making in January as I'm a bit busy during the holidays.

January sounds better for me, too. And I've been looking at arches for quite awhile now, wondering when I'll have time to do one. This would be perfect! And my theme would then be Doors. No problem sending to Germany. Sounds like fun!

Dear Ruth and everybody,
January sounds great because I have November and December for trying to sew a fabric book page.
The difficulty for me is, that I am in Holliday till 15th of January. Perhaps my first page will be a bit late but if we have the full month for the swap it will be no problem.

I think one page per month is ok. And one theme for each participant sounds also good.

I live in Germany I hope that will be ok for you (because of the stamps, they will be a bit more expensive for you). I mail to all countries, so it is no problem if you live in Australia or USA.

I would like fairy tales.
