Hi Jules, I have a HuskyStar ER10 and love it..My advice to do some searching on Embellishing machines as they are many. If you have a set price, you can narrow it done..I got mine 2 years in August for 299..on sale. It is so fun..so I think if you invested in one you will never regret it..I have a small home but have manage to put 4 sewing machines, an embroidery, and serger in and around..you would be surprise what one can do when one wants something bad enough..make sure when you do purchase your machine that it can be service in your area or from the company you bought it from.
Let me give a few examples of what one can do..
Fabrics, I have tried every fabric there is..roving, Angelina fibers, and etc...The only thing that does not felt is tulle..but you can use tulle on top of something like lame so it will stay one..I just a pin for a brooch swap, I used a 5x5 and used what fabric type that I wanted and cut out a daisy and put a clay figure in the middle over some Angelina...you can view this and other things I have done just be searching for it my labels..I sure hope I have helped you a lot. Ask questions, and keep asking questions..ok..hugs, Lorraine

Hello everyone, I've just joined the group as I've recently begun feltmaking again, both wet and hand needlefelting. I'd like to find out more about embellishers and would be very grateful for any advice about models, best places to look etc. Both cash and space are a bit limited, so I really don't want to make a purchase I'll regret!
Many thanks! Jules

if You have not done Your hat-decorating yet, and are still looking for designs (and not directions), You might try doing a search for Scandanavian knitting. If You were looking for fancier stitches, there is a good book called Embroidery of All Russia by Mary Gostelow ..... You might be able to find it at the library, or for purchase (inexpensively) on Amazon or Ebay..... or try A-libris or Bookfinders.com. I'd post a few pictures here, but there are probably rules against doing that?

Phyllis Segan , I hope You're already busy stitching.

I tried searching on google and came up with a few pictures. Did you try that? I just used the term "Swedish style embroidery". You might want to post your question on the main forum so that more people see it.

On the Today show, before Christmas, they took the different people on there and sent them all over the world. One went to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. On this trip she wore the cutest wool felted hat. It was a cap design with 'slight' ear flaps, much like a WW 2 flyer's hat. It had Swedish style designs stitched on it and I want to make one. I cannot find any stitches examples for this. Anyone know of a good picture source as I don't need patterns, just pictures.
I want to use heavy threads for the designs and need some for the crown and another to stitch around the brim. I am not looking for cross stitch but other embroidery stitches. Any suggestions?
Thanks Janet

Hello, I also just joined the Ning. At the moment I do a lot of feltmaking and dyeing, you can see my work on my blog. Under a tag Natural Dyeing I have writen couple of posts (sort of tutorials, English is my second language, so bear with me, please) on natural dyeing which I enjoy very much. If you are interested, you are more than welcome to come and have a look...
