Barbara - could you explain more what you are trying to do? I know people who needle felt around a form to make shaped pieces i.e. hats or vessels. Is this what you mean? They usually start the piece on the form and needle to it to get it shaped. If your piece is flat now and you want to shape it, I would suggest some wet felting around a form and then steaming. But it's hard to say unless I know what specifically you are trying to do.

Barbara,
I am no expert by anyones standard!! But I have formed the flowers on my felt necklace by using a fabric stiffener called ''stiff stuff''
Basically I mixed up 1/2 stiff stuff with 1/2 water and then soaked my felt in it..next I squeezed it dryish and then can be moulded by hand ( a tio here use clothes pegs/pins) to hold shape while drying. It dry's perfectly in the shape you wish for.
But maybe someone else can pop in here with more ideas for us?

Hi, It's me again!
I am longing to try and shape some dry felted work I have, but I am not sure how to proceed. I don't know if I can mould the piece around a former of some sort and whether I have to steam it, ?? Anyone who can point me in the right direction would be a friend indeed!

Many thanks
Barbara.

Hopscotch - it does include dry felting both machine and hand. All kinds of felters are welcome here!

Hi everyone,

Before I post anything within the group, I would like to know if this includes people who use the Embellishing machine or as some call it, dry felting method?? I do hope so!

Sadie, when I make a felt postcard, I use a stiff interfacing as the middle layer with muslin fused to the back for writing. Then I do a thin layer of felt either on the needlefelting machine or by wet felting, add the details and then cut to size. Make sure you make it bigger than 4x6 as it will shrink. I usually make mine 10 x 15 or so and then have two postcards done at once. I then fuse the felt front to the interfacing and satin stitch around the edges. Hope that helps!
