I wonder who would be interested in a different sort of Round robin ?
This would be where the participants make an ornament for each of the other people in the swap.
The ornaments don't have to be traditional Christmas as some of us may celebrate other festivals in Winter e.g. Hannukkah , loy-kruh-thong (Thailand),Diwali , winter solstice. the person receiving just needs to say what they would prefer - if they have a particular colour scheme , then they need to say that as well. Next , each person would get a list - we could work with up to 6 people - each list starts with a different person and you would have to commit to send at least one ornament a month to the next person on your list so If we start in September , each person would have at least 4 ornaments by Decembers end - if we start October , each person would have 3. If people are faster stitchers then thats okay or if you have more time and are able to get ahead then thats okay too but there is no pressure on this - March is still considered winter here in the UK !!!
Would anybody be interested in doing this ?

I am. I would want blue and silver Channuka theme. I am willing to make whatever type of ornaments anyone wants.

This sounds like fun. Since these will be ornaments, we'll finish/embellish them after we do the cross stitch part, which is more opportunity for creativity. (I also like the fact that I'd be able to work at my own pace instead of having to wait for the next month to do another one.)

My family celebrates Winter Solstice, but any non-religious, winter-themed designs are fine, too: chickadees on pine branches, snowflakes, abstract patterns in wintery colors...

Count me in please Jan. As Tansy said, it will be good to work at one's own pace instead of waiting for someone else's piece to work on. I'm not particularly religious, but I do associate Christmas with the birth of Jesus, so the themes of angels, stars, etc. would be nice. I also like Santa Claus, gingerbread men, and Xmas tree motifs!

Right , lets get this show on the road - there are four of us so far . I'll leave it open in case two more people want to join us till the 31st August . That gives people more than a week to decide . After that time I'll make a list of who sends to who first etc and we can each put what we would like / don't want and hopefully we'll each have a nice set of ornaments to celebrate our own beliefs and to brighten the winter months

I'm bumping this discussion to the top of the list again, in case there are CSF members who haven't yet seen this project and would like to join in.

I'm still interested, Jan. I'm disappointed that there are not more of us, but I guess as it gets closer to Christmas, people get busier. I'll email you my details in a minute.

Yes.

Sorry I've been out of touch - just spent a week having my first "real" vacation (the kind that involves travel) in about 20 years.

Hi Tansy
Where did you go ? Hope you had a wonderful time . Did it inspire any stitching ? I've still got your birds I'm afraid but I promise I will finish asap. Can you email me your details - adress and what you want for your ornaments . My email is newmum@in2000.freeserve.co.uk

Hi Jan - I have just caught up with this RR. I would love to join in but unfortunately I will be away for October and a couple of weeks in Nov - would that be too late to start my stitching or else definitely count me in for any after those dates....Joy

Joy we'd love to have you in as you work at your own pace for this - as there are potentially 4 of us (still waiting for Tansy's details) , as long as you stitch and send out 3 ornamnets (plus one for yourself of course) by the end of the period (probably January) then that is fine - If you're happy with this please send me your details by email to newmum@in2000.freeserve.co.uk
