For those of you who are not yet "all swapped out", I have some ideas for our next exchange. One of our newest members - Dawn - mentioned on a previous discussion that she makes Pendibules. I'd never heard of these, so I asked what they are, and Annie very kindly provided a link to a tutorial for making them. I can only describe them as half a biscornu, but they are really cute. On the same site, there are also tutorials for biscornus and cubes. I've seen the cubes and pendibules on other blogs but didn't know what they were called. Now that I do, I'm dying to have some in my collection! The best way to achieve that is organise an exchange!! Who would like to be in this one? If it goes ahead, I won't start it until July/August, to give us a bit of a break between projects here. The round robin continues until September, but that will be the only other project still active.
Here is the link to the site that Annie has provided: Catia Crafts

The kids are away for a bit during these two months so I should be able to fit this in with the RR

I'd be happy to play. And here's another tutorial just in case you want another viewpoint:

I'm hearing about more and more strange sounding ornies through Stitchin Fingers! Lynne has just posted a message elsewhere about another cute one with an unpronouncable (sp?) name - for me, that is, as I don't speak French - Zigouigoui. But the tutorial is easy to follow as it is mostly in photos, as all good tutorials are ;-)
So do we have a choice here? Pendibules? Cubes? Zigouigouis? Should we make it a Stitcher's Choice exchange? Each person makes what they want to, and the recipient has a surprise in the mail. Or should we stick to one form of ornie at a time? As this exchange won't start until about August, we have time to discuss which way to do it, so I'll leave this Discussion open to comments in that time.

And don't forget the humbug! Here's a link to the tute:

I like the idea of leaving it up to the stitcher to make one of the 3 dimensional shapes of their choice. But I'm easy.

Humbug!!!!!!!! What more do you have up your sleeve, Annie?!

How about a 15-sided biscornu?

This site is in Russian, but the pictures say it all!

Thank you for the links, Annie & Gina! These look wonderful - they would be wonderful Christmas ornaments or scissor fobs or ... Please put my name in - I would love to swap one!

Oh my - these look like so much fun! I keep telling people I don't do cross-stitch any more - and then along comes a bunch of cuties like these. Count me in on the swap. It will take me until August to decide which one to make, though. LOL! Pendules and cubes, zigouigouis and humbugs. Oh my! This must be the Land of Oz!

"Land of Oz" - which Oz, Liz? Judy Garland's Wizard of, or Oz being short for Oztralia? ;-)

We have enough interested members to make this project a strong possibility. I suggest we start in August (of course those of you who aren't busy, ha ha - can make your ornie any time you like, and just hang on to it until we open the exchange discussion!). Shall we have a stitcher's choice? Or do you all want to make the same kind of item, such as a pendibule? We've got heaps of time to discuss this, so go ahead and leave your comments over the next six weeks.

Lynne and Marg had an interesting chat going on the biscornu discussion, regarding what goes inside three dimensional ornies. Marg said she could strip her lavender bush to use the flowers inside a biscornu to make it smell nice. What a lovely idea! BUT - one problem here if you are outside Australia and sending something into Australia. DO NOT send anything with any kind of plant material in it. The super-sensitive x ray machines at our airports can sense plant materials, even dried seeds and leaves - and they will be confiscated and destroyed.

Not to mention that many of us have allergies!

Hello All...the idea for a new exchange is very interesting but since I failed to meet the dateline for our biscornu exchange, I had refrain myself for all future exchange :-( ...with all the new work assignement and travelling back on forth between Malaysia & China, I guess it's very difficult to juggle. It's bad to keep my swap partner waiting!.....Howver, I am glad that I join all of you here at least I am learning new stuff such as stitching the humbug and Zigouigoui.(adding this stuff into my stitching plan already)....I hope I will fine time to stitch them........to all participant...enjoy and stitch with love!! -hugs //siti-
