What do you think about a UFO challenge?

Possible ideas:
- commit to a certain time span (1 hour) of working on the UFO each week
- work on the UFO every Tuesday (or other weekday)
- swap small UFOs and finish them either for keeping or for gifting back (Blue Bell Baby's idea)
- ?

What do you think?

Tuesday isn't the best day as I'm doing TAST, but any other day is fine. Funny thing is, I've almost finished my long time UFO cross stitch project, been working on it all week to get it finished. Just have the back stitch to do today. Think I may have one or two with a few stitches to complete, otherwise, I'll just have to start another one! lol

Hi,

Tuesday will not work for many people then, it was just the first weekday I thought of. Good going on finishing the long term Ufo. I am not sure if starting a new UFO is quite what the UFO challenge should be about... ;^)

This one is the first of two that are part of the same kit. Wonder if that would make it count? lol

Working one hour a week is what I would prefer.
I'm working on several other projects but one hour is okay and will bring my curtain to an end one day, I hope.

Karin, thank you for starting this Discussion - I think it will create a lot of interest, as most of us have UFOs which need motivation to finish!
As I mentioned elsewhere on this Group, a previous group I was in had a UFO group going. We committed ourselves to doing some work on our UFO every week, and to prove we'd done it, we had to post a photo of it on the group site. I don't think it matters which day or night you choose to do your stitching - or how long you work on it, as long as you make some time once a week.
I've also heard the suggestion of swapping UFOs, but never seen it taken up, as most people would rather have the satisfaction of finishing their own work. I personally would hate to give away something I'd started! Although, I've picked up hundreds of other people's UFOs on eBay and in opshops...mostly from deceased estates though!

lol. How do you know which one to start with? Maybe I will throw them all in the air and whichever one lands nearest to me start with that.

Hi,

if you can not decide, just use the oldest...

Sounds like maybe an hour each week on a UFO would suit most of us. Let's say by Sunday evening you should show us your progress of the week or comment here, how does that sound?

This sounds 'do-able' Karin. Now to choose one UFO out of the many.
Ha ha ha, Blue Belle Babe!! If I threw all my UFOs up in the air, I would be drowned in linens when they all hit the floor!
I did have an idea of awarding some kind of prize to the first person who completed their UFO, but that wouldn't be fair unless we all selected something the same size. I have hundreds of doilies and duchess sets I'd like to complete, as well as full size table cloths. I could finish off a doiley in a couple of hours if I put my mind to it! No, I think I'll choose a very special table cloth. My MIL gave it to me about ten years ago. It is a Semco suppercloth stamped with a design of roses and daisies. She had only stitched one rosebud then put it away - we're talking 70 years ago, mind you! I've since stitched one rose, and it took me two week, because the shading was quite complicated. In this case, I doubt very much if I would be the first to finish my UFO, but at least it will give me the incentive to start working on it again. MIL would be tickled pink.
Should I open a Flickr page for our UFOs? Actually I was thinking of creating one for our Group anyway - somewhere we could put photos of our exchange cards, and whatever projects come after that.

Hi Gina,

Flickr for the Group would be nice, can we have subfolders? Otherwise tags would work.

I love the idea of this old tablecloth getting a workout finally. My mom did some stamped cross stitch designs in the 70s or 80s.

Hi,

did you get a chance to set up a Flickr page? I might have missed the link or your life might have been too busy, so I thought I would check in case it was me.

Hi! Just joined the group. I didn't think that I was doing cross stitch lately, but then decided that my annual Christmas ornament for the grandkids was going to be biscornu. Ah hah! What a wealth of information in this group. I would love to use this as a UFO project (won't be completed until all 9 are done) and think that posting a pic a week would be a great motivator to not leave it all until the last minute. (Would I do that?) I would prefer to work on our own time schedule, then post a pic at an appointed time. I have a 4" half done, but am thinking that might be too big for getting 9 done. I'll decided when I get it completed. The family has grown - between DH and I there are 7 grands and 2 great grands. 3 are married but I decided the grandkids-in-law have to share. There are limits you know LOL
