Have you thought about making a doll using recycled and "found" materials?  There are a lot of examples of dolls made with sticks, feathers, leaves, etc.  What I'm thinking of is the stuff you don't really want to put in the trash.

For instance, the computer group where I used to work gave me a bag full of outdated computer parts.  There are circuit boards, wires, funny adapter pieces and several unidentifiables.  How could I make a doll from these parts?  Wire in her hair.  Maybe wings from the circuit boards.  Ah - shoes out of the chips on the boards.  I'll get a photo of some of the parts up soon.

What other trash can we turn into treasure?

Hey Liz and all I recycle as much as I can in my creating. I am big on thrift store finds.

I like to fill the bag for $2.00 and I get all sorts of laces and trim on clothing. This doll

I used an old curtain that had a hole and stain on it and bought it for pennys.

I use styrofoam cups, tuna cans for hats. Peach can and larger for seats. There are so many

thing you can incorporate into dollmaking. Hugs Kat

That's beautiful curtain fabric, Kat!  Thrift shops are just full of yummy things, aren't they?  Next month our doll club will be cutting up formals and sharing the lace and doodads.  Sounds so much fun.

Thank you Liz, I have a wedding gown from a thrift store my daughter hunts for me, it is fool of lace appliques, filthu on the bottom of the dress but worth the money for the fabric alone........great finds. That curtain could nt be hung, it was stained and had a whole in it.......so its a great save.

You lucky gals that will be great waste not want not right? hugs, Kat

Liz, that would make a great challenge wouldn't it?  To make a doll out of "found" or "recycled" items?  That could be a lot of fun.

Has anybody else thought about that?  I would be in for a challenge like that.  Fiona A

I started making my dolls from old T- shirts with nylon curtain tassels snatch from their job of holding back my Mom's curtains. I think I was around 8 or 9 years old when I made my first one. I continue to use old clothing of mine and my husbands to create all my doll's clothing. I love the concept of creating a doll from old computer parts. I would love to see that!
I used a computer chip for a dolls face. It was perfect! I love using recycled or objects found in nature. I used a pinecone taken apart for a necklace.

I love making dolls from anything I can find I sometimes use spanish moss for hair. It grows in my trees here in Florida.  I also like the idea of making dolls out of tree branches.  I love finding beaded lace and things of that nature in the thrift stores.  I also was thinking about creating doll banks out of 2 liter soda bottles. So many go in the land fill.

I love the lace Kat I love finding things in thrift stores to it so great to find something great for a dollar. That makes my day. hugs Kat Elaine

Liz, could we get another recycle challenge going for later in the year?  Sounds like it could be a lot of fun "Trash to Treasure" maybe!  or what about "Dump to Doll"  What do you think?
