Here is a website that I mentioned early on, but some of you may not know of this: hamiltonbooks.com.
Click on Needlecrafts, then go to your favorite topic. The books are all reduced in price. I've had excellent service form Hamilton Books.

The quote from Mary Englebrite is really a poem from David McCord:
" Books fall open, you fall in,delighted where you've never been;
hear voices not once heard before, reach world on world through door on door;
find unexpected keys to things locked up beyond imaginings.
What might you be, perhaps become, because one book is somewhere? Some
wise delver into wisdom, wit; and wherewithal has written it.
True books will venture, dare you out, whisper secrets, maybe shout
across the gloom to you in need, who hanker for a book to read."

In the Quilters Anon. Group, a discussion has been started about Baltimore Album quilters and contemporary versions of Album quilts. If you've made a block or a quilt in that style, you might like to add a photo and description to the discussion. (Or ask a question or add a comment).

The topic made me take out some of my books on Balt. Album patterns and similar styles. Here are some I'd recommend to anyone interested:
Applique 12 Easy Ways! by Elly Sienkiewicz--excellent directions for many applique techniques and patterns for projects included
Design a Baltimore Album Quilt! by Elly Sienkiewicz--I love rereading this book, and some day I will do more than my 4-block album quilt and use this book.
Baltimore Beauties by Mimi Dietrich--original, simpler designs based on the Baltimore Album style.
There are many more books of patterns based on this style.
Kathleen
p.s. To Sue Dulle: I love the saying: "Books Fall Open...You Fall In". So true.
On my small Album quilt, I appliqued a simple book and labeled it: "A book is like a garden in the pocket". Unfortunately, I don't know who to give credit to for the quotation.

I love my books too. I have books everywhere. Mary Engelbreit made 2 cards that I had framed together.: 1st card- "Books Fall Open...You Fall In"; 2nd card - "A book is a present you can open again & again" I even blogged last April about my "friends" (http://sudukc.wordpress.com/2009/04/01/books-are-friends/ ) Thomas Jefferson and I agree, he said, "I cannot live without books."

I, too, am addicted to books. I have 11 book shelves and books still in boxes. Yes I've read everyone of them and even have shared them. I've given away books. I also have boxes of needlework magazines. I still can't get enough. Most are reference books on the arts and a few are from a period when I helped teach special ed. children. I've also used some in teaching period crafts to school children. I've never taught a group any bigger than about 150( I used to get a lot of blisters making equipment for all of the participants). I do miss the extra research I'd do but since moving to New York I found I can't teach because I can't afford the extra insurance clause on my home owners policy) I have found that New York takes more away then it gives even when they don't have to pay a penny themselves. Enough of that. I love books and magazines.I think some of that love stems from the fact that I didn't have tv until I was a in the tenth grade. I really didn't have radio until around the same time. We lived very few places that had children in the neighborhood. I used to walk miles to get to the library (no car) and take a shopping cart to bring home the books. I learned how to speed read to feed the habit. he speed reading helped in school. My father used to test me to see if I really read all the books I checked out. After answering questions on a dozen books he was satisfied that the books had been read. I do shop on line for books but prefer looking first in a regular book store. I also go to used book stores and have gotten some wonderful books.

I love books too. Any type - I have two 5x5' bookscases of paperbacks. Plus in my sewing area 1 6' case of craft books and magazines. Can't resist subscribing to mags - love them and most have little yellow sticky notes sticking out!!!! and this is after I have culled out a lot and given them away to the local church for their Fete last Christmas! Like Kathleen, the first thing I look at in garage sales, etc is the books! The shelves of the bookcase in my sewing area are slightly bent with the weight!

Hi--I'm another lover of books, especially books about applique and patchwork.both contemporary and traditional quilts.

My quilting book collection is in the dining room and my living room! I have a spare room for all my sewing-but there is no room in it for the books. Looking at photos of quilts is a favorite "quiet" pastime.

Here is a sampling of some favorite quilting books:
everything by Gwen Marston--tho I own only a few of her books
applique books by Carol Armstrong-flowers, birds, butterflies and other themes
applique books by Bea Oglesby-flowers and birds
Beyond the Horizon by Val Hearder-small landscapes
The Fabric Makes the Quilt by Roberta Horton
Quilting Outside the Block by Sandi Cummings-non traditional patchwork

I've gotten many of my books at library sales, even garage sales; and
hamiltonbooks.com is a good source for all needlework books at discount prices.

LOL Sheila, we have to stop meeting like this! Isn't it funny how we tend to bump into the same names on different groups here. Thanks for all those ATC book titles, I'll jump on to Amazon in a minute and have a look at them.
I have a fairly big collection of books too, but have to keep them within the boundary of my 'study' (spare bedroom/craft room), as my husband is NOT a book person at all, and can't understand why I have to have so many. Every time I bought a new bookcase, he would say "If you stopped buying books, you wouldn't need to buy any more bookcases":..he just doesn't get it.
