I'm bothered by the fact that "Pins"are coming from here with no credit to the actual artist. This violates copyright--i don't copy photos to my blog that aren't mine, but people seem to think it's okay to do it there. And now Pinterest can "print" those  pins and make money from my images uncredited and with no financial or artistic recompense to myself or the other artists.

I have been looking even further into this and found this article

http://artists-bill-of-rights.org/news/campaign-news/pinterest-vers...

it is a very scary read as once an image is pinned

"Pinterest will have the right to "sublicense, to use, copy, adapt, modify, distribute, license, sell, transfer, publicly display, publicly perform, transmit, stream, broadcast, access, view, and otherwise exploit such Member Content only on, through or by means of the Site, Application or Services."

Thank you for another link to add to my page, Sharon... Pinterest sounded too good to be true, and is!

I had a look at another page from Artists Bill of Rights. It would seem that Pintinterest isn't the only one bending copyright to suit themselves.

http://artists-bill-of-rights.org/news/campaign-news/thirteen-quest...

Me again I started to lodge a whole pile of DMCA notices with Pinterest and they have taken down the material  - I am still doing it as I have to do it with each image. But I wanted to let people know that Pinterest has acted and is removing material as I report it.

"Question: What rights are protected by copyright law?

Answer: The purpose of copyright law is to encourage creative work by granting a temporary monopoly in an author's original creations. This monopoly takes the form of six rights in areas where the author retains exclusive control. These rights are:

(1) the right of reproduction (i.e., copying),
(2) the right to create derivative works,
(3) the right to distribution,
(4) the right to performance,
(5) the right to display, and
(6) the digital transmission performance right."

Hi all I wrote a detailed post about his yesterday - you will find it here on Pintangle

and also Pinterest have made a statement as they have changed their terms of service

They state that "Our original Terms stated that by posting content to Pinterest you grant Pinterest the right for us to sell your content. Selling content was never our intention and we removed this from our updated Terms."

Their terms of service that will go into effect for on April 6, 2012.

However they still do not make it crystal clear that re-publishing images online, that are not your own is an infringement of copyright unless you seek permission form the owner so I am sill holding a no-pin policy

and yet i still found this:

and interestingly enough, the "Printerest" is supposedly not affiliated, hmmmm

URL for images from Stitchin Fingers on Pinterest:

This is just plain exploitation, profiteering and disregard for copyright. Even if Pinterest are not affiliated, they will still make money from this and lots of artists that sell or licence their work for a living will lose out. I think that the spirit of groups like Stitchin Fingers and Flickr will be lost if images cannot be protected. For a start, it makes a nonsence of the copyright licence arrangements on Flickr. I have made a book of some of my images and sold a few copies. I would not like to see images of my work sold in this way without my permission and completely out of my control.

Wow!  And then you look at all the repins...who knows where it all ends up.

Hi Kay! You can set your photos at Flickr so they can't pin, by disabling downloads by anyone but yourself (yes i know about screen captures, but it's a start at least) Flickr also is quite vehement about NOT letting pins happen period
