I am creating a large wall-hanging for Guildford measuring 9' by 3' with a large frieze surrounding. The work will be completed in small units and applique to the main duck fabric. Year of completion 2012, to be hung in the new Civic Hall and opened by a prominent person. Stitching will be freestyle with stumpwork, and silk shading etc. (see my page for details) Would you like to join? We have roughly 30 active stitchers but we need more... please help!
I would love to particpate in this, I've done some gold work for St Pauls Cathedral in London, and I am currently learning stumpwork, along with many other techniques. Does it matter that I'll be bach home in Australia?
Interesting.... very long distance but I have no big objections. If you specialise in Stumpwork you could get some small stumpwork insects, butterflies, flowers done for us. It could be sent in a sturdy box. Do you fancy to give it a go? The project is a long one, aiming for 2012 when it will be hung and officially opened by some HRH if possible. Your contribution could be placed at random along the riverside and would look very attractive. What do you think?
Great! Let's have a go at an international contribution. We have a meeting this Saturday so will discuss with Rhoda (it is our joint project) what you can create and then I will send you as much information as possible. I have started to put some info on my Facebook. If you can find me on there you can view the photo start. I will be loading more on there soon as I have only just finished painting up the building kits.
I'd certainly like to know more and if I can contribute in some way. Are you looking for stitchers to do something and send it to you or are you hoping that stitchers will congregate and work together?
Hi CA
I don't have a set plan! The elements will be individually stitched and then appliqued to the main duck fabric so stitching can be done at home. The project is underway and I have painted the line drawings of the buildings. Long distance contributions could be smaller pieces that I can send out as a basic design and instructions - for example a stumpwork leaf or a flat hand embroidery piece and then we can applique it in our workshop. Do you have a favourite type of stitching? I looked at your work it's beautiful!
Kris
Thank you. I just love stitching :-) I've not done any stumpwork but would like to try it. I'm always trying new things. I've done some gold work, which I love. I live in Oxford (UK) so could probably come along to a some workshops, just not in the next 3 or 4 months.
Kristina, I'd love to participate! I live in Guildford, New South Wales, Australia. I think it would be most appropriate to stitch a contribution for Guildford England, don't you? I'm happy to stitch something you suggest, or you could supply a pattern outline. I'll look for you on Facebook too, that's a great way to communicate as well as here at Stitchin Fingers.
Hooroo,

Fantastic!! You really MUST! You contribution will be well noted and documented - very historic. What are you good at? I can send you a painted outline of an element. As said before we have a meeting this weekend and I will present all my 'new friends' at this meeting and discuss how we can get a long distance contribution going. How exciting!!
Christine, the news that you live in Guildford made everyone chuckle, they thought it was great! All international stitchers can do small objects like beetles, butterflies, flowers leaves and any type of flowers or fauna.
