Permalink Reply by Marjolein Mieras on June 21, 2012 at 8:16 Recently I have started needle tatting. The purpose was to tat pieces for my crazy quilting. On my blog http://threads-and-patches.blogspot.com/ you can see the results under the label tatting.
Permalink Reply by Carmelina López Andrade on June 23, 2012 at 11:48 Jackie, I've been doing tatting many years ago. I don't use needle, I use shuttle. At the beginning is sooooo difficult to get the knot, but after that.... you can get beautiful effects. I think the needle tatting is more limited than shuttle tatting. Maybe you can try again with shuttle(s). There's a page I visit, frivolite.es, it's in spanish but there's a lot of videos, instructions, patterns.... The Georgia Seitz's page is another internet source of knowledge in needle and shuttle tatting. You'll enjoy visit them.
Greetings from Mexico. I'd love to see your progress in this beautiful art.
I've done a little needle tatting and love it. Actually it is my understanding you can convert any pattern written for shuttle tatting into needle tatting. If that is true it wouldn't be limiting at all. Needle tatting is very easy to learn. I haven't done a lot with it yet but I'm anxious to do more and like you Jackie want to do some to use on my CQ also. It would be interesting to hear from someone who has done both whether they feel one has an advantage over the other.

Permalink Reply by Gin9912G on June 28, 2012 at 15:13 I haven't tried tatting yet but am interested in it also. It's very pretty and would make a gorgeous embellishment. It seems a lot like crocheting in super miniature form. :)
Permalink Reply by Nicola Thomson on July 1, 2012 at 1:15 I used to be able to do shuttle tatting..the knack is in the way you make one thread twist around the other, once Id mastered that I was ok...but very slow
Permalink Reply by Margaret on July 2, 2012 at 8:24 re needle tatting, today I went on utube and hey presto I am needle tatting, only the basics but it so much easier than with a shuttle and you can undo it when you go wrong!!I will now try Anneliese`s link to a pendant.
Will have to find wherI can get some thicker needles, I am using a doll needle at the moment but would like to have a go using thicker thread, think it would be easier for a beginner.
Permalink Reply by Margaret on July 6, 2012 at 0:06 well I have looked and asked about needles foe needle tatting and all I get is either a blank look or "you do not use a needle but a shuttle" It does annoy me when specialist shops etc do not seeem interested , if they specialise they shpuld show some interest, I fear all they are concerned with is selling existing stock, no wonder we are shopping elsewhere ie the internet or abroad. I find the doll needle has too sharp a point to make tatting a pleasure but will carry on trying to practise and will go to the internet in search for a supplier, I wonder maybe a lace supplier is the route to go down

Permalink Reply by Margaret on July 6, 2012 at 6:35 thank you for the information Anneliese but when I went to order the needles were $11.95 but the postage was $42.89 so will carry on using the doll needle, maybe I can snip the point off with some pliers so I stop pricking myself.

Permalink Reply by Margaret on July 6, 2012 at 10:05 have managed to find needles at last from someone who imports them, also ordered a needle tatting book, have got 2 fine needles and then 3 that come in a packet for using with wool etc, think it is easier to learn with thicker thread
