Dear all,

I am Jessica Grimm, 33 years old and mad about hand embroidery. Both my paternal grandma and my maternal grandpa were great stitchers. I was always fascinated by my grandma's work, mostly cross stitch in later life because of poor eyesight. When she had to give up all together, I inherited many of her handwritten bobbins of stranded cotton. And the large tin she kept them in. Very precious indeed. Due to my good head, I embarked on an academic career (for those of you who want to know more, look here: http://rug.academia.edu/JessicaGrimm). The academic stuff got (and unfortunately gets) in the way of my more creative side. I keep fighting this :). I started attending the certificate courses at the Royal School of Needlework in early 2010. I will be over there a lot this summer as I have by now progeressed to the dimploma course!

Best wishes, Jessica Grimm

Hi-Jessica, I just saw your post. Are you in any of the groups yet? You sound very advanced in embroidery. I am a Lacemaker who specializes in Late 19th Century Venetian -style Irish Crochet Lace! Just the style I zeroed in on! I am mad about Bias-Tape Applique, too, which I use to make monograms and Celtic designs, and I love Floating/Amish Lace! Have you finished with RSN, yet? That is so impressive! I actually work as a sewing contractor which is 90% machine work, production work, samplemaking, prototyping but that is my "day job" because my "dream job" is handwork.

You have all my admiration! You are lucky to plunge into your hobby in your young years!

How wonderful to follow your passion for embroidery and be able to use your grandmother's treasured belongings,

I look forward to viewing your work!

Happy New Year

Barbara

Happy new year to you too Barbara! I indeed feel very priviliged that I am able to follow my passion the way I do. Have a nice day, Jessica

Jessica your pebble is gorgeous, I couldn't find the story behind it however. I also live in England and think it's amazing that you're attending the Royal School of Needlework. To get as far as the Diploma course is something special. The photos of your work are wonderful. Regards Mandy

Hi Mandy,

Thank you for your praise! The pebble adventure was started by Marjolein and Deb. The story can be found on the discussion forum of the Hand Embroidery Group. I made my pebble for my grandmothers memorial service tomorrow.

Have a nice day, Jessica

Jessica,  I am honoured by your request to be your friend.  As I am old, all this computer input is difficult for me to understand and to activate accurately.  Your life path of work and creative play are astounding.  Actually, we have sort of followed the same path.  I trained as an Occupation Therapist in my youth but got sidetracked in CranioSacral Therapy later on.  Got very fed up with OT.  Continued to learn everlastingly and finished up treating Head Injuries.  Am likely the only person you will meet who is enthralled with studying Neurology.  You will find out more about me on my blog:  http://stitchingidyllic.blogspot.ca.  and my website of www.annbernard.com.

Please do browse the book I have written which you will find on my website.  I trained at RSN when it was still in Central London.

I love your creative energy.  Your entusiasm is infectious.  All good wishes    Ann

Dear Ann,

Thank you so much for your encouraging words! I've just downloaded your gorgeous ebook. The gardens are great and I love the way you used the stitches to make the flowers and shrubs. I am starting a RSN in the Netherlands in January; all very exciting! What a coincidence that you are a cranioSacral Therapist. Almost nobody I know has ever heard of this, but I visit a therapist quite regularly and benefit a lot from it. It is such a gentle and natural form of therapy.

Have a nice day, Jessica

Jessica,  It is great to be in communication with another soul who not only stitches with the same values, but has a similar academic turn of mind.  I am impressed with your publications though I was unable to read any of them.  CranioSacral Therapy.  John Upledger has died within the last week.  He pioneered the development of CST out of the realms of scarce and expensive Osteopathy into the realms of availability to those who would benefit.  A great man and an original thinker.  We lost Erica Wilson just last December.  Yes. I knew her.  I am totally intrigued that you are starting an RSN in the Netherlands and that there must be interest.  I look forward to hearing a lot more about it.  And many thanks for purchasing my book.  It is written for beginners but there is a lot in it that is not general knowledge.. If you would prefer a more private conversation, please reply to my personal email which is on my website.  Enjoy your weekend.  All the best   Ann
