Permalink Reply by Rebecca A C Keith on December 4, 2011 at 11:13 okay, thanks for the clarification, let me check a couple of things and I'll get back with you.
My experience with doing stitching pine cones has been with ribbon embroidery.
I have the book "The Silk Ribbon Embroidery Bible, The Essential Illustrated Reference to Designs and Techniques by Joan Gordon and on page 104 is has a section on making silk ribbon pine cones. I took a couple of pictures of the stich and directions and will try and upload them into my album on Stitchin Fingers, but give me a couple of hours because I'm need at this uploading to Stitchin Fingers web site and I have to re-charge the camerea.
The stitch demonstarated uses a Fishbone Stitch.
You draw the shape of the pine cone on your fabric. Then starting at the top working side to side within the pine code drawing. The drawing in the book is a leaf shape like you would use in fabric applique. Does that make sense?
I personally have also made pine cones with a plain ribbon straight stitch and altenate them diagonally as you work down you skectched design. If you work them bigger and smaller sizes and do them randomly it will appear to be a pine coen.

I uploaded pictures with instructions for a silk ribbon pine cone to Stitchin Fingers.
I hope it helps you.

Permalink Reply by Susan Shufelt on January 1, 2012 at 8:16 Use silk ribbon. I have made some beautiful pine cones with SR. I will try to post a picture of one under my photos if you are interested in what they look like. Just give me a day or two. SR makes it pretty easy.
Sorry I know it was totally well meant and in the sprit of helping out but I have had to remove the pinecone instructions because you can not republish pages from a book - it's a copyright infringement. Please dont scan pages of books and put them online it is totally illegal.
