Hi Everyone

I received an email today that reads

I hope you receive this message on time ? Sorry I didn't inform you about my trip to the UK England for a program,I am presently in England, something extremely dreadful happened to me,I was mugged at gun
point on my way to the hotel by some hoodlums and they made away with
my bag and other valuables.
I feel so devastated, now my passport and other belongings are been retained by
the hotel management pending the time I pay my hotel bills. This is
shameful,I need you to help me with a loan of (1,850 pounds= $3,550) to
pay my hotel bills and get my self home.I will reimburse you soon as I
get back home.I will appreciate whatever you can assist me with. Can you
be of help?
Please reply A.S.A.P.

A googe search indicates that this is a scam.  Although it appears to have come from a member of this network, it was not sent by them but by some nasty scammer.  If you receive an email like this do not respond to it, don't click on any of the links contained in it.  Delete it.

Hello Everyone,

Yes, My computer was hijacked this past week and ALL my contact Information Stolen
Of course this is a scam. I am NOT in the UK and I DO NOT need money. I am devastated by this and the last few days have been a nightmare. I am sorry for any problems this has caused my friends. I was told by several other people who have also had this awful thing happen to them that they access their account from "FACEBOOK". I plan to close My Face Book account as soon as I figure out how to do this. I have lost ALL my friends email address because they deleted this too and all my inbox messages. Very evil people, indeed. I wish this to NEVER happen to anyone. So you if you would like me to contact you again please email me at cjquilter00@verizon.net so I can get back in touch with all my friends again. Thanks Hugs Judy
Yes this is a scam - its been doing the rounds on the discussion lists too
Poor Judy!

Just an idea for everyone - keep a regularly backed up copy of your e-mail address book somewhere safe so that you never lose all your contacts if you end up as the victim of this kind of vile thing.

Another reason I'm glad I don't use Facebook - although I'm a rare breed.=)
Hello Elizabeth. Yes, Poor Me. vbg It was NO fun being a victim of a scam like this. After losing "ALL" my address contacts I have now backed them up. Never to be caught off guard again. It was awful having a blank contact book. I have resist facebook for several years and finally gave in to a friend who wanted to Play Lexus scrabble game with me. I truly regret it now. I have deactivated my facebook account and have NO desire to go back to facebook. Thanks for your advise. Hugs Judy

I am so sorry that this has happened to you, Judy.

Some people are not aware that you can set your privacy setting on Facebook so that only your friends can get to your profile page. Click on Account then on Privacy Settings. You can choose from Everyone, Friends of Friends or Friends Only. The default setting is Everyone so if you'd like to be more secure, change them. They will stay at the setting you choose unless you choose to change them at a later date.
Hello Karen, Thanks for the information but I have already deactivated my account. I am not sure if I will ever go back but if I do I will take your advice. Hugs Judy
