Does anyone know much about his thread, by reputation or by actual experience using it? I've seen it advertised online, but I'm hestant to try it without knowing much more than the advertising claims, which are as follows:

Here's what I've been able to find out: it's made by the Circulo Company of Brazil. The ads describe it as"100% mercerized and gassed cotton thread. Color-fast, 50 different colors. Very high quality thread. They don't ravel or knot. They are very easy to work with. Vibrant colors. Care instructions: Handwash up to 40ºC / 104ºF, lay flat to dry."

'Suggested Uses: Crocheted Edgings, Tatting, Sating Stitch, Needlepoint, Cross Stitching, Scrapbooking, Stamping, Punch Needle Work, Candlewicking, Quilting, Embroidery, Crocheted lace, Crochet Flowers, other crochet works, knitted lace, knitted bead bags, held with a component yarn. It can be used on aida and hemp."

I've seen it advertised in large amounts with low prices in various places online, like the site Paraguay Threads. It almost sounds too good to be true!

Thanks,

Janice

I'm not sure I'd label something that needs hand-washing at only 40C as 'colourfast'!

Good point; that's kind of a red flag, isn't it? On the other hand, color-fastness isn't that much of an issue for me since I don't wash my work and use a hoop or stretcher bars when stitching so that the pieces don't need wet blocking. I'm just skeptical when I see large amounts of a thread being offered at low prices on ebay, even though it's tempting to get such a good deal.

Yes, I quite see what you mean - on both counts! When it comes to pearl cottons, I use those mostly for hardanger and some of the projects are quite likely to be washed, ie cushion/pillow covers, so genuine colourfastness would be an issue for me. For other projects, like you, I wouldn't trouble myself about that at all. It really depends what you need it for in the end but yes, sometimes you wonder if a deal is just too good to be true??

Hi Janice,

I have several colors of the Rubi pearl cotton and I like it. It stitches as nice as DMC and Anchor. I use it for crazy quilting so I don't wash it. The colors are nice and the price is right to get a variety or colors. I have purchased mine through a "group" buy and it does take a while to ship.
