Does anyone out there have any ancient Needlewoman magazines?  Around 1934 there were a series of four screen panels, based on Solomon's Song of Songs.  I have three completed panels - stitched either by my late mother or myself.  I am in need of the stitching instructions for the last panel.  I have everything else that I need but not the instructions and if anyone can help me I would be delighted - it would be lovely to complete the screen which my mother started so many years ago.

Hello Margaret, I am sorry I do not have what you are looking for, but wondered if you had tried this place:- http://www.ivarose.com/  They seem to have lots of old publications [re-vamped], and perhaps a search there might find what you need.   Good luck, and please share what you have done.

Hello Linda

Thank you so much for your suggestion about ivarose.com.  I will look at their website and see if I strike lucky.  Yes, I promise I will take some digital photographs of the panels and upload them onto my page.  They are unusual and beautiful panels, totally unlike my Japanese embroidery!

I got it wrong - it was 1936 !  The third panel was published in April 1936 and so the fourth panel would probably have been published within a few months of this date.

No luck following Linda's kind suggestion, so I am still looking and hoping.

I am uploading photos to my page

Are you still looking, Margaret? I have quite a few Needlewoman Magazines, and I may have the one you want, although I know I won't have the full size transfer. I worked the Persian Fantasy from about the same period...

I will also have a dig around Margaret and see if I can find it , I have a few copies but not sure if the dates are right. There is a shop called Ken's in Newport Pagnell that has thousands of mags- not sure if you are near or not. If I get the chance I will pop over and have a look to see if they have a copy.

Hello Rachel

Yes, I'm still looking!  It is kind of you to look through your old copies and any issues in 1936 may be a help to know which issue it was in.  I would not need the transfer as I already have the panel printed on the same fabric as the other three panels, I would just like the general guidance notes and colour references that would have been in the magazine along with the stitching guide. I can "guess" but would really like to get all the colours in the right place!

Hello Sally

I am most grateful and shall keep my fingers crossed that your dig around might find the elusive issue of Needlewoman.  I think after all these years that I am asking for a miracle that someone will have it!  Thank you for your suggestion about "Ken's".  Unfortunately, I am afraid I am nowhere near Newport Pagnall.  Perhaps I can find Ken's on the web?

Margaret, I have the complete Needlewoman and Needlework magazines from about 1939 until they stopped production.  Unfortunately I only have about three or four before 1939 so I don't know if one of them is the one you need.  They are up in the loft at present but the next time I go up there I will check for you.  Grace

Hello Grace

Bless you for being willing to climb around your loft to check and see if you have what I am searching for.  All I know, having found the Needlewoman issue for panel 3, is that the fourth, and last, panel was in an issue after April 1936 (I got the year wrong in my original post).  Unfortunately I have no indication as to whether these panels were in four sequential months or whether there was a gap of a month or so between each one.

Many thanks

Margaret

Margaret, I have the first month and the third, but not the fourth, I'm afraid. The first month has a colour illustration which I could photograph, if that would help?

By the way, my guess would be that the final panel would be in the magazine for May 1936. The Persian Fantasy which I embroidered was in four magazines in sequence..

If this is helpful there are several 1936 issues available on Ebay

Hello Rachel

It is most kind of you to offer me a colour copy of the screen.  However, I am crossing my fingers and hoping that I do not have to trouble you for this.  Deb Lee has told me about the issues on Ebay and I have found and bought the May 1936 issue!!!  With luck this will have all the information I need.  After such a long search I am delighted.

Many thanks

Margaret
