Hi all this is just a reminder about photos on this site.
Can we please keep all photos on topic. If you want to share personal photos please do so on one of the free photo sharing sites. There are plenty of free sites online where this is possible.

To make it clear photos "on topic" are pictures that are of textiles or relate to the topic of the group.

The reason I am reminding people is that as a group we are limited to certain bandwidth after that I pay for the site out of my own pocket. I don't make money from the site. In case you read this and assume that the advertising is generating money, it is Ning the people who host the site who make money from the advertising not me.

If we go over our bandwidth I start having to pay for it. Since photos take up more storage and download space I ask people to keep on topic and load a 6-10 photos or pull them from flickr. It is in the guidelines.

What I am trying to say is I run the site for the community but can not afford for us to go over our limit. If everyone loads personal as well as fiber related photos this will happen.

I do not want to be a meany but I think a reminder about this is needed.

Perhaps Sharon you should send this message by e-mail to everyone. I'm not sure everyone reads all the forum postings. I think a reminder that old photos might need to be culled out and to keep only 6-10 photos on your page at a time would be great. I'm also not sure everyone has read the guidelines.
Yes Ruth you are right - I will get on to it. I don't know why but I have a great reluctance to send out emails on mass but I think this is worth doing.
Yes Sharon i have deleted pictures from my album...
I shall "prune" my photos now and I think it would be a good idea to send out a request that everyone did the same.
This is such a great site that you started it would be very unfair for you to be out of pocket.
I chucked about 20 photos, including the weather-related ones. I had never meant to keep those up long term, anyway.
Sharon, can I pls double check I've got this straight before I go and dump a load of pix. Are you wanting only 6-10 photos per person at any one time? I got the majority of mine from my Flickr account, does that make a difference?

Sorry to be so dense, I'm just a bit confused,=)
Elizabeth,

It is my understanding that if you use the Flickr method to upload photos that the photos are stored on Flickr and not stored here which is what takes up the space. Sharon, please correct me if I'm wrong.
I have half a recollection that there was some difference in amounts allowed, but it's hazy now.
Yes as I say in the guidelines - photos pulled from flickr are fine its just photos loaded directly here.
Thanks Sharon. I now just need to delete the 2 that are regular upload and find out how to get them here from Flickr instead. I did the others as a batch!
Thanks for clarifying that. I, too, thought I had read that somewhere. Of course, there is no reason one should not clean up their flickr account now and then as well!
Sharon, I didn't realize that it would cost you money. I deleted a lot of photo's and left five of them. I will check out flickr.com to see if I can upload some there.
