After sneaking around this site for weeks, looking at all the beautiful work all of you do, I decided that I want to be part of this wonderful little corner of the internet. So here I am. Hello!
My name is Cat, I'm hiding out in the middle of nowhere in Canada, and I've been stitching all my life. More recently trying out different embroidery techniques, and I just finished my first goldwork piece. (On that topic, I'd love some advice on how to cut the wire more precisely.)
But really, this is just me saying hello to you all!

Hi Cat.... welcome, you are sure to have fun here... Lots to see, lots of inspiration and all are so friendly.
Enjoy
Hi Cat
Welcome, I look forward to seeing a photo of your goldwork. When it comes down to cutting wire then you need good small, sharp, curved cutting pliers available from good electrical stores.

welcome to this wonderful place and resource of craft. I'm sure you like it here. Lots of variety, so much talent, and I think all of the stitching world is covered.

I, like you, looked at this site for quite a while without doing anything about it - just admiring other people's work!
I live in the UK and like you, I am very interested in goldwork. I'm no expert but perhaps we can swap ideas. I recently plucked up the courage to post a couple of photos of some of my pieces on this site.
Happy New Year!

Permalink Reply by Carol-Anne on December 28, 2010 at 7:15 Hello Cat, Welcome to Stitchin Fingers. I very pleased that you have decided to join in the fun. Your First Goldword is very good. I have done a little goldwork but it is Japanese goldwork that does not involve any cut work so I am not able to offer any advice on cutting precisely. I have to say, I think that you have done extremely well, first try or not, and the design is lovely.
If you are not satisfied with the edges, could you not outline those petals as you have done in other areas. If you want a slightly different look you might consider overstretched pearl purl either wrapped or couched with a coloured thread.
There are quite a few groups on Stitchin Fingers that you might like to join, including a Goldwork Group. As you have already discovered, you don't have to join to see what is happening in a group, but you have to be a member of the group to join in the fun.

We lived in Leeds for 3 years, but 4 years ago we moved to Canada. Maybe our paths have crossed and we didn't even know it.

The butterfly is only about 14cm square.
