Would anybody be interested in having a group just for crochet be it thread or yarn?  I am a Crochet Addict, not looking for a cure!  Just more yarn and time to Crochet!!

This is easy. You know how to crochet? If you know double crochet (dc.) and treble crochet(tr.) then it is very easy. I will make notes and then write to you.

Hi,

Thanks dear. Yes, I know.... but not a pro of course!!!! When I look at it I knew it was easy....But when I tried I was a bit confused. And I was wondering whether I should do the border separately only after completing the table mat? Thank you for your help.

Hello Zeeniya, I am not sure if you want to recreate this table mat 'exactly', but I have a pattern already graphed that has the same type of open shell repeating pattern.  It is a square, starting from the centre.  I will send you a friend request, and perhaps we can talk more about it.

The edging on the table mat you've provided would more than likely have been worked around the perimeter of the design, after the initial square of patterning was complete, just working each side around, not worked separately and crocheted on.  Perhaps I've misunderstood your question, and you already know that, sorry.

The design I have has a few picots within the basic design.  I was wondering if you worked the design from this pattern, you would perhaps get a feel for how it should crochet out using a length of chain, and working back and forth.  Just a thought.

Cheers, Linda.

This piece has 143 chain to start with. For 11shells we need that much sts. I think you should try a smaller say six shells to practice with. To do that start with 82 sts. turn and one tr into the third ch. from the hook. Now dotr inti each ch. till the end.make two ch. and turn.2nd row.is like the first row. Now the pattern row. Three ch. 1dc into fourth tr tiil end.three ch. turn 2 nd row ( shell)1 dc into 3 ch space 3ch 1 dc into next space into next space work 9 tr 1 ch 1 dc into next space 1 ch 1 dc into next space . 9 tr into next space. Till end 3 rd row -3 ch turn 1 tr into the base of thrre ch. 3 ch 1 dc into next space 1 ch 1 tr,1 ch eight times.( tr into each tr of the last row.1 dc into next space 1 ch again dothe eight trs. Repeat till end. Fourth row 3 ch turn 1 dc into first space 3 ch 1 dc into next space five ch 1 dc into next space repeat till end . The2 nd 3 rd and 4 th rows form the pattern. We can start the piece with the border (two) lines. Finish with two rows of border. The sides can be done later do trs. On the two edges. Lastly one row of shells all round. That I will post tomorrow. Hope you understand to do this!!
My.....my....... thanks so much for the trouble you have taken to explain this to me vijaya. I'll try this & post the picture.
Yes, please do that.
Thanks a lot Linda , I appreciate your help very much. I was very much curious to know how to do the table mat that I posted, thanks to vijaya, she has taken all the trouble to write the instructions.

Thank you for your friend request....very thoughtful of you, and of course I will be very happy to have the instructions of the square table mat that you have. I would love to try it. I'm very fond of crochet designs with 'gaps' - I don't know the real term, may be you call it 'lace', and also edgings that can be stitched onto sleeves, skirts, collars, table mats (linen) etc., I just don't know where to find them.

You've got it right Linda... about the edging that I've mentioned. I'm sorry if I was the one who had you confused.

Please do send me the pattern, at your convenience. I'll try it out.

Thanks again,
zeeniya

I enjoy crochet very much and have done both with thread (which I love) and yarns. I am interested in learning to do Irish crochet lace. I would very much like to join your group.

Cathy, if you go to GROUPS at the top of the page, this will take you to all the groups that you can join on Stitchin' Fingers.  Hooked on Yarn, is our group, jump on in and enjoy playing with all of us 'Hookers'  LOL
Thanks I would appreciate it. It looks overwhelming, maybe that's why I haven't even tried
It yet.
Cathy, one stitch at a time. Don't try and take in the whole pattern in one go.  Take one row and break it down into the individual stitches and Voila in no time you will be doing the Irish Crochet Lace you crave to do.  I have been Crocheting for some 40 odd years and am still learning how to do different Crochet techniques, that's all part of the fun!!!  Let us know how you get on, there may even be others in the group that would like to give a go!
I am interested. Just not a lot of time lately.  would like to more creative design.
