My problem with creating a group is I know so few people interested in stitchery except through this stitchinfingers and if I create a ning group I'm afraid  I'll end up with 2 or 3. Can I join a group that is already created in stitchinfingers? I offerred to sponsor such a group (that is, pay for it uo ti 150 members) but understand that is not possible.  So far of the blogs I have created, I have 5 followers in one and 2 in another. Looks like us lone wolves are left out in the cold.

Hi Natalie. I'm probably being a bit dense but I'm not entirely sure what you are asking. NING is a social networking site. Within NING there are many networks, Stitchin Fingers is just one of those. Within Stitchin Fingers were have 'groups'. I see that you have already joined the Needlepoint Group. You are free to join as many groups as you like. Click on the groups tag at the top of the page, click on a group that interests you and then click on the 'Join this group' button on the groups home page.

You are also free to join other NING networks but why would you want to when SF is for everyone interested in textiles and fibre arts and all the best people are here ;-)

You are also free to start another Group within Stitchin Fingers if you are interested in a subject not already covered by the existing groups. If you have a subject in mind, it might be worth asking first if others would be interested in a group on that topic.

I wouldn't worry about how many followers you have on your blogs. I don't 'follow' any blogs. I use an RSS feeder instead and I don't think you can tell how many are following you that way (I may be wrong).
Thanks for your help. Here is my problem. So I set up a blog and pay $2.95 which is fine. Then I'm alone as I am now. What is social about that? As I say, I've been blogging for less than a month and still learning, a bit afraid that I'll set myself up with a flood of advertisement as has happened to me when I did surveys. So I've been leery of "rss". Should I just wait until July and hope someone will let me join their group?
Natalie
Natalie just join any group you wish - its free you dont need to pay or even have a blog
Groups are not blogs - they are converstaions have a look at the groups pages (click the tab on the top that says groups) select any of the active groups and look at what they are talking about
Blogs are like a diary (only the latest thing is at the top of the page - have a look at mine - pintangle

Blogs are not a single photo or comment but a full website (check my archives there is years of them!) I say this because you say "So far of the blogs I have created, I have 5 followers in one and 2 in another."

You can set up a free blog on blogger or wordpress (which are in no way part of NING or stitchin fingers they are blog services) but you do not have to have a blog to join in here

On Your page (click the my page tab) you can have photos and leave comments on other peoples photos. You are a member of Stitchin fingers. The Your page section of the site is where you can be social and looking at your page you are doing just that 'chatting' to people.
In fact I think your confusion is because you are so social rather than being a lone wolf - behind the text I see a person who is reaching out and for that reason will probably be a very valuable member of this community as many people are shy. So don't give up on us!
I have a hunch you are trying to get across too many new things too quickly and maybe getting a bit confused as what is what no only on this site but on the web.

RSS is something that allows people publish their blog within stitchin fingers or pull in other peoples blogs into a reader

I hope I have clarified things for you and not got too geeky to be confusing you further.

Thank you everone for helping me out. I am impatient, possibly my age. So much is new in the social network (you hit it on the head, Sharon) and I'm sure not quitting - there is so much good stuff in stitchinfingers. I'm becoming aware of how important creativity is to me. Its the opposite of my life career of accounting - a CPA, yet. I'm a real Gemini.

Hi Natalie
Actually you have had me thinking the last day or so - I think I need to write a series of 'back to basics' tech articles as I am sure there are loads of people like yourself who need a bit more of an explanation,as it is too easy to assume people know and it just makes them feel alienated. Perhaps I need to find a good glossary of terms too. In the meanwhile if you google things like "what is a blog?" and "what is RSS?" it will help too
I am away from home at the moment - in Sydney but next week - or the week after that I will work on a few notes for people

Did you notice that there is also a bargello group on stitchinfingers?
Thankyou - I did look at it and think I'll do a sampler of bargello patterns. (When I finish the wallhangin I'm doing.

Natalie you don't have to be currently working on something to join the group and chat. All you have to do is be interested in the topic. So if you like Bargello or any other group you can join
