crazy quilting

I am so enjoying seeing everyone`s crazy quiltingand really want to have a go. Allthough I have a few patchwork,quilting books there is very little on crazy. I would love some tips etc and maybe advice on a suitable book as I am itching to get started.

Sharon I have added your squidoo to my favouites bar so I can find it quickly in future, it really looks very informative and I can see myself returning to it often.

Meg you mention libraries, I went to the main one in the city centre but niether of the books I enquired about were available and they have never had them We can borrow from libraries in the area but they do not get books from other council areas, libraries seem to be going over to talking books,CD`s etc and also have computers for people to use.My local one`s area for books has only half the space dedicated to books now, such a shame, also I think they do not have the money to purchase stock with the economy the way it is now. 

 I have ordered a couple of books, since my last post I have traced the Crazy quilt handbook by Judith Montano Baker from a second hand book supplier for a small price so I am waiting impatiently for the postman to come knocking..

Yes Meg I am a member of the Embroiderers Guild here in Leeds and if the quilting takes off might join the Quilters Guild, will take a trip to York when it gets a bit warmer as the Quilters Guild headquarters are there and get some more inspiration.

Grace the book you mention is not the one I have ordered, will see what the others have to offer when they arrive before I buy any more, you will have me destitute at this rate.

You will fall hopelessly in love. It is a wonderful experience putting a CQ together. My only problem has been trying to keep my CQ 's from being too girly yet be attractive for the male gender too.

The one I used when starting out was 'The Crazy Quilt Handbook'. Judith gives a history, talks about design elements for successful crazy patchwork (including texture, patterns and solids and how to select the fabrics to use), a 'how to' and a bit of a crazy patch stitch dictionary. But she has also produced entire series of books on the subject - including some great stitch guides.

Also quite good is 'An Encyclopedia of Crazy Quilt Stitches and Motifs' by Linda Causee. I htink that this may be available as a free download from a few places on the net.

But my favourite book on the subect and perhaps my crazy patchwork bible is 'Treasury of Crazyquilt Stitches'. It's getting a little rare now, but you can still buy it through Amazon and the Book Depository, etc. Carole began a blog in 2008 (http://myheartsfancy.blogspot.co.nz/), but she didn't keep it going. There are still a few useufl tips on it though. Some public libraries carry this book over here, so you may find that your library has it, too.

I have Elegant stitches by Judith Baker Montano,its reaaly nice.I also have Crazy Quilting by Allie Allers,its got alot of nice things in it too. I am real new to Crazy quilting.

'Elegant Stitches' is a great book - it shows not only illustrations of how to make the stitches with floss/thread, but also ribbon embroidery.  There is also a book of Crazy Quilt Stitches by Leisure Arts.  I would begin with a cotton piece as far as fabric as it is so easy to work on.  Fair warning though, it's addictive!
