Does anyone know a US source for abaca tissue or Tissuetex? Is there a produce any of you use in lieu of it? The owner of PaperArts.com used to carry it until the mill that made it stopped production. She is looking for a US distributor for Tissuetex or another mill that supplies abaca tissue. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks, Carmen. I think you're thinking of Timtex. Tissuetex is an abaca (a Phillipine fiber) tissue paper used mainly for paper and mixed media projects. I believe there is an abaca based tissue sold for conservatory purposes, but maybe only available in huge amounts.

Here's a couple of US companies that sell it. I just googled handmade paper or abaca and came up with these. Maybe she could contact the company and see if they have a US supplier.

I'm not sure what tissuetex is....I'm guessing by the other ladies response you are looking for a stiff interfacing sort of thing. I just bought 35 yards from Long Creek Mills....they call it stiffy stuff. What are you looking to make with it?

It is tissue paper with really cool properties. Tissuetex is available in the UK and OZ. Here is a product description: "Tissutex is a tissue like paper with wet strength that can be dyed and stitched. It is made from the long staple Abaca tissue. It can be laminated to itself or other paper, you can trap threads and fibres in between sheets of it. It can be scrunched, marbled or tie dyed. Tissuetex Plus is thick enough to go through a computer printer."

hi! I am from the philippines. and if you look at my photo, I am actually weaving a cloth made of abaca weft and polyester warps. I don't know exactly what tissuetex is.
But you might want to ask the owner of that weaving center I visited. Here is the website: http://www.heritagearts-craft.com/start.htm The weaving center is one of the most important weaving centers in the philippines. I really like the cloths made from pineapple fibers. She is also a designer and product developer. Her latest project was leather-like paper from mulberry.
