Hi all I thought I would start this group and see if people were interested in joining. If you are here leave a message to introduce your self. Tell us what your fiber interests are too
I will also test the image function and leave some eye candy
Hello everyone,
I used to be a beader and silversmith but in the last year I have well and truely caught the textiles bug. I'm currently experimenting with fme and hand embroidery, some patchwork and cq-ing, needlepoint, ATC's and a few other projects. Desperately trying not to start too many more things before I finish some of the WISPS I have lying around! I would love to learn more about dying my own fabrics but that one is going to have to wait a little while I think.
I look forward to seeing how this group develops.
Hi all, I'm Jacqui from Auckland, New Zealand. I spend most of my time embroidering - usually some form of counted stitch or canvas embroidery, although I will try my hand at anything. I seem to spend a lot of time stitching more traditional designs, but prefer contemporary and "mixed media" type projects - a long story. I've done a couple of Joggles classes with Sharon and recognize some of the names here. I'm also signed up for the Journaling class in June (or is it July!?!) so will see some of you there as well.
Hi Sharon,
Thank you so much for inviting me, I am principly a feltmaker and embroiderer, I use both hand and machine. I spin and dye my own yarn for embroidery, I have recently started to spin silk which is easier than I imagined. I also make some hand made paper.
You will see by my work that I am often into circles. I study Celtic Art because my Grand parents were Irish and I feel a strong pull in that direction. I do other themes too but this one usually pulls me back. I love symbolism and look for the meanings in the work I look at. I have just started my first challenge site and this is the first of the challenges; to look at ancient symbols.
Well, I look forward to meeting everyone else. I'm going to have a good look around now Tricia
Hi, I am another Sue, living in the west of England. I've had a lifelong love affair/obsession with textiles, aided and abetted by the fact that I had to take early retirement from work due to chronic health problems. I love stitching, both by machine and hand. I do a little patchwork and quilting, rugging, knitting, dressmaking, spinning, dyeing, feltmaking, lacemaking, crochet. I seem to collect textile techniques, equipment and stashes, to the occasional despair of my normally very supportive DH. I'm trying to get back into routine with Sharon's TIF challenge after a spate of viruses laid me low. It's certainly making me think, even if the output hasn't been reliable.
Currently my inspirations are my garden, my trips to Venice, Marrakesh and Florence and my life in general.
The on-line world is very important to me, socially and in terms of stimulation, as I don't really get out much! I'm looking forward to what Stitchin Fingers will bring.
Hello Sue, from another Sue :- ) I also have health issues that confine me to home. The internet has become a bigger part of my life than I ever expected. Do you have a blog? You can visit me at http://sewingmagpie.blogspot.com
Hi Sharon,
This site is a great idea and I'm sure there will be lots of interesting discussion and news that comes up. I am a novice blogger but have been stitching in one form or another for at least 40 years. I'm becoming more active in creative textiles now my children are getting older (4 children; 8-18years).
Hi all
Thanks Sharon for inviting me. I've been quilting for 10 years and at the moment, I'm trying to expand my embroidery skills. I'm rather on the traditional side but would like to be more experimental.
Hi all great to read all these intros I anyone who is new to the community of stitchers online will get a real sense of what the group is like - I hope the place is a friendly and welcoming place for anyone who is interested or wants to learn about textiles.
I have been checking out the help files and have discovered that the network’s quota, before we have to buy a premium service, is 10GB of storage and 100GB of bandwidth per month. If the group is large and everyone load lots and lots of photos we will use that up really quickly. So I am asking people to load images to share with the group but not to use the site as a photo storage place. Basically I see that if everyone is considerate about this all should be OK.
Hi there everyone! I'm Pam Kellogg and I Iive in the US (Northern Illinois). I enjoy many types of needlework but my passion is crazyquilting. I also do old-fashioned embroidery and I collect vintage embroidery iron-on transfers. I love to sew as well, esp. on my antique Singer treadle machine.
My current projects include a Button Quilt inspired by Sharon's "I Dropped The Button Box Quilt". This project was also inspired by my vast collection of buttons which tends to exceed my storage space! My blocks are 6 inches square and I'm planning on doing 80-100 of them. If you would like to see the blocks I've done so far, you can see them at my Flickr site. my Flickr site.
My other current project is the Take It Further Challenge. What I've done so far can be found at my Flickr site also.
In between those projects, I do CQ cat dolls for The Comfort Doll project as well as CQ purses.
I think this will be a fun community! Thanks for the invite Sharon!
